Fourth Grade Began with Betrayal
For many years, I was a joyful elementary teacher and elementary school principal on Long Island. My home is now in Los Angeles, where I happily volunteer as the librarian for the Beverly Glen Play Group. My days are filled with gardening, making soft sculpture baby dolls for my grandchildren’s first birthdays, and rocking out to dance music in my kitchen. The voice of my writing carries echoes and reflections of the children and teachers I’ve known.
A fourth grade girly girl discovers that she is smart, talented, and artistic, but that practice is required to accomplish her goals. Along the way she relinquishes an alliance with a mean girl and finds true friendship with a tomboy and a girl who is learning English as a second language.
The target audience is girls in grades 4 - 6 and classroom reading groups. The story takes place on Long Island NY. Significant elements include life in a basement apartment with a mom and grandma, acting class, baseball, a school science fair, and general elementary school interactions.
