Brooke Erin Stout
She is a new poet who is delighted to find we have more power than we think to make compassionate difference in the world. She lives with her husband, two daughters and many animals on Whidbey Island in Washington State.
This poetry book is a written record and witness of one woman’s opening in the light of what she can not un-see or un-know about justice and her country. She confronts herself with the question of what does it mean to love God and others with all your heart in today’s world; realizing her previous silence, ignorance, and passivity when it came to inequality was not love. These poems are the spoken, visual declarations announcing a lighting of an inward fire that continues to change every aspect of her life as she learns to trust God, herself and realizes we all have so much more power to make a compassionate difference in this world than we think.
It is to my community which is by and large a white middle class small military town that largely identifies as Christian.

I would love it if waves could be incorporated. The ocean is huge for me and a huge source of inspiration. Themes from nature that show action and change and movement and growth. The title In Hope comes from a letter I received from Bryan Stevenson. I had written to him a couple of years ago after I read Just Mercy and told him about the impact it was having on me and my friends who read it too. He wrote me back and signed his letter with In Hope....any of his books or talks he talks about the necessity of hope.. it is not a passive sitting back hoping things will get better. It is the hope that things can be better which carries and pulls you forward to keep going to make a difference because it does matter.
