My Rival, the King
Jubilee Lipsey’s passion for writing began with a childhood love of the Bible, and expanded into a lifelong obsession with the authentic lives behind the scriptural stories that form the foundations of her Christian faith. An avid reader, storyteller, and closet-actor, Jubilee earned her BA in English from Catawba College in 2013 and has continued to write in her spare time since then, living out her penchant for drama on the page rather than the stage. Her dream in writing is to share breakthroughs, igniting the faith of readers hoping to experience God in their everyday lives. The transplanted North Carolinian has traded the sunny southern mountains for the Great Lakes and currently lives in Kenosha, WI with her husband, Tim, and their rambunctious fur-boys, Arlo and Linus.
For three years, the shepherd warrior David has been like a son to the king he’ll eventually replace. But Saul’s jealous fury burns out of control, branding David a traitor and forcing him to flee for his life. Taking refuge in the cave-scarred wilds of Judah, the young giant-killer is joined by The Mighty, a fugitive resistance group hoping to end Saul’s reign. Pursued by the king all over Israel, David grapples with the thorn in his anointing, wondering if his heart will survive the path to the throne. With a very different kind of flock depending on him now, is it right for him to persist in his vow to spare Saul? Still honor-bound to the brother he loves and the king he no longer trusts, Saul’s son Jonathan agonizes over how to protect his wife and child from the disaster his father is inviting. Who else will have to die before David can rule? Drawn by promises that make their hearts bleed, David and Jonathan face a battle fiercer than any Philistine’s hatred. Will their faith be strong enough to endure the wounds of weapons forged by family? Will their honor withstand the flames of what they’ll have to sacrifice for Israel’s future? Does Yahweh really want a broken king?

Book cover type
* Cover design must match book 1 aesthetic (See reference image for details) * Book 2’s cover should be darker and more intense than Book 1, with not much in the background except maybe the hint of rocky cave walls. But the author would like to follow the style of Book 1, where only the characters’ torsos are shown, not their faces. King Saul’s torso and shoulder can be in the background (he’s a much older man, in his late sixties, and he’s wearing armor and a red robe with a gold fringe). In the foreground, we can show David’s arm and torso, his hand clutching a knife and a torn piece of Saul’s robe. David can be dressed more roughly, like a renegade outlaw.
What to avoid
