What's your vision?
Edited to add: I'm not looking for a dark,ominous/mysterious, or clinical cover. My novel has humorous elements and fits into the Women's Fiction category, which is generally a little bit "lighter" in tone. Thanks! Edited to add #2: My main character is a down-to-earth engineer, so she wouldn't look super sophisticated or model-y, and she wouldn't be wearing a dress, especially a fancy one, she'd be more casual. Original description: I'm looking for a replacement cover for my second novel, "The Migraine Mafia," a humorous Women's Fiction novel about a woman with a chronic illness. While I like the one I have now, I'm looking for a cover more squarely recognizable as a Women's Fiction novel than a cover that focuses on headache/migraine (ie. one featuring a lot of pills), which is what I have now. My book is well-reviewed but it's not grabbing mainstream Women's Fiction readers, so that's my goal. A polished, sophisticated cover with a bit of a wink, or a sense of humour would be great. Pale colours are fine, but please don't use pink. (But please use *some* colour.) My main character is a 30-something Scandinavian blonde with blue eyes. Lots of Women's Fiction covers show a woman on them, one facing away from camera, so this is what I'm leaning towards. Something slightly out of focus with a woman near a group (ie. the Migraine Mafia) might work too. Empty chairs might work also (the Migraine Mafia is a support group for people with migraine). I'm looking for something sophisticated, clever, and unique with a great hook, and I'm open to ideas. Covers I like: "Running From Romeo" http://www.amazon.com/Running-Romeo-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00EX7AE7K **this one is my fave "Red Hill" Jamie McGuire (different genre, but I love this cover) http://www.amazon.com/Red-Hill-Jamie-McGuire-ebook/dp/B00DJWV0XC "The Awful Mess" http://www.amazon.com/The-Awful-Mess-Love-Story-ebook/dp/B00DHX0GNS/ref "The Hazards of Hunting While Heartbroken" http://www.amazon.com/The-Hazards-Hunting-While-Heartbroken-ebook/dp/B005M2QFNW/ref The cover for my first novel, "The Sock Wars" http://www.amazon.com/The-Sock-Wars-ebook/dp/B00AH0OJ5A Sarah Pekkanen and Amy Hatvany are two popular Women's Fiction writers; their covers are a little blander than what I'm looking for, but they have a strong appeal for this audience. Sarah's covers are here: http://www.amazon.com/Sarah-Pekkanen/e/B002FYZBVM/ref
1) This is the backflap copy for the book: On paper, Viive McBroom has it all-a loving husband, a key position in a fast-paced, technical field, one promotion away from real success-but that's only if you ignore one little problem. Sandwiched between one migraine and the next, Viive's life is like those choose-your-own-adventure books you read as a kid, only less fun and with a lot more drugs. Faced with frustration from her loved ones and the dark machinations of a new colleague, Viive feels herself getting pulled under by guilt, apologies, and workplace shenanigans. But then she meets the Migraine Mafia, a quirky, vibrant support group, and she discovers that a room full of strangers just might be able to change the way she views her illness-and realizes that if she doesn't learn to ask for help, her health isn't the only thing she stands to lose. Sometimes painful, frequently hilarious, always entertaining, "The Migraine Mafia" is the story of one woman's quest to thrive in the face of chronic illness.
