Destinee Ayala is a self-published author who began her writing career as a freshman in high school when she dabbled in writing fanfiction online for fun. Her unexpected passion for writing bloomed into a dream to one day publish her own book, which came to fruition after nearly three years of hard work and dedication. She calls East Texas her home, where she lives with her two rats and family. You can visit her online at www.itwasdestinee.com or on her Youtube or Instagram (@itwasdestinee).
In a world where everyone has special abilities which they could once use without fear, reality transformed. Countries worldwide decided to become united under one government, and alongside that, create some devastating change. Now, all the natural talents everyone was born with, were twisted into being the most deadly disease in human history; a disease that could be cured. Meet Eli Peraza — ex-military assassin and Corporal to the very government he is now part of a revolution against. On his journey to help reveal the ugly truth to the world, he saves a wounded woman who had mysteriously escaped imprisonment during a scouting mission of a military camp. Over time, they come to learn that she had been subjected to surreptitious experiments and her memories had been erased. Despite her amnesia, the totalitarian government still views her as a threat and doggedly hunts her down. Together, they discover why her memories were taken, what her connection with the government was, and how she is fundamental to changing the tides of the struggling revolution, for the truth never stays hidden in the moondust for long.
Teenagers to adults. It's not for younger audiences.
Book cover type
For this cover I want it to show my two main characters when they first encounter each other in the starting chapter of the book. It takes place at night, and on the left side of the cover, I want it to show my male character, (he's tall, wearing all black clothes with a cowl. He also has a black, rustic-looking pistol in his hands.) and over his shoulder, you see an open field with the dark silhouette of trees beyond it. In the field, is a wounded woman lying on the ground with dark brown curly hair, and wearing a ratty hospital gown. There are the starting flames of fire around her, and over the trees, you can see a few floodlights from the military camp beyond the border of trees and a full moon. Black, gray, white, red, and some blues are the main colors I'd like to see. As for the title and my name, I'd like them to be done in a bold, fantasy type of font, with the book title at the top, and my name at the bottom. The book is going to be 6x9.

Working with Joey was fantastic! I'm so glad he participated in the contest I created because he nailed a majority of what I wanted with the first design. He was patient, a pleasure to work with, and quick to reply and address any requested changes I had. He even went over the top with adding a banner, wallpaper, and a few other things in addition to creating the two files I needed for my book cover! I can't recommend him enough, and I will definitely be getting in touch with him again when I need my next book cover! :)
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
