Art & Design
Ryan P. Freeman is an up and coming fantasy novelist who writes immersive high-fantasy primarily for a YA audience. Ryan P. Freeman is a fellow adventurer. After miraculously surviving childhood cancer and several near-death experiences, he launched into the world of AM talk radio, hosting his own live program out of Albuquerque. Ryan is a Pastor, former International Red Cross guest speaker, and medieval-enthusiast; loves sampling craft-beers, and is an unapologetically proud kilt-wearer. In his down time, his interests range from exploring real-world pan-mythology, survivalist camping, and copious video gaming. He and his wife live in Hannibal, MO along with their two dogs, Maci and Lazarus; as well as their two cats Lira and Baldur.
What's your vision?
Hi, I’m Ryan P. Freeman and I’m a fantasy writer. I’ve been writing for just shy of a decade now and have two manuscripts currently seeking publication. I’m really excited to get my first work out into the world because I really want my writing to inspire others. I’m a firm believer that imagination is the backdoor to the soul. I need the book cover for my first manuscript, The Phoenix of Redd, Volume I: Rienspel designed. This will need to be for both physical and e-edition editions. And hey – if we hit it off, I’d love to see about having my second manuscript’s cover commissioned as well! While my first book will not be published until late 2016, I really want to be able to have all my ducks in a row – and this includes an epic, arts nouveau-inspired cover design. Rienspel is best categorized as a YA High-Fantasy similar to Ursula K Le Guin’s A Wizard of Earth Sea or J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. With that said, my target audience will most likely be teens to young adults who enjoy reading, history, mythology, and pop-culture. Similar works within my realm of literary competition will come from modern fantasy authors like Ursula K Le Guin, Neil Gaimon, Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling, and George R. R. Martin – just to name a few. The tone or image I need to portray involves a sense of wonder, whimsy, and legend. My original inspiration for how the cover might look would be one which makes the reader feel as if this book is actually somehow actually from my created world in which the story takes place. In that regard, Stylistically, I would prefer a design which blends the arts nouveau of 18th century fairy tale with the wood-cuttings depicting scenes from ancient myth. I am also trying to avoid the overwhelming trend of e-books’ typical covers of some forgettable action scene or pair of moody main characters. With my branding in the past, I have used drawings favoring a range of fiery, colors and charcoal greys, but I’m ok with branching out as long as it furthers the autumnal, old-world theme. My ultimate goal is for Rienspel’s cover to enchant and captivate readers. Thoughts like, ‘how did this even get here?’ and ‘will this disappear if I look away??’. I want Rienspel to be as successful as possible because from cover to back, it is a solid piece of good art. While I want people to fall in love with my story, I also want them to treasure the cover design, as a visual symbol of the magic between its pages. Invocative, moving, and eye-catching. In the past, my favorite artwork has come from Deviantart.com, as well as various friends. My current Phoenix logo I am using for marketing originally came from a piece of concept art from one of these sources which is provided. Thanks very much for your time! I hope this both works out and is fun for both of us! Best, Ryan P. Freeman 11/9/15
A few more things! The book's measurements will be 6x9in and will be published by Whosoever Press. Their website is http://www.whosoeverpress.com/ if you'd like to find out more about them. Thanks, -Ryan
