Book Cover Proposal
My name is Kevin R. Anderson, M.D. I am a surgeon in Lincoln, California. In July, 2008, I was diagnosed with a rare, incurable and fatal disease; amyloidosis. I have written a book that chronicles my experiences as a patient. Ultimately, the book is a story of hope and faith. It is also a love story. The title of the book is, "The Middle of Infinity." The subtitle is, "A Doctor's Journey Through Illness."
My vision for the cover begins with two gold rings. They touch each other and fill a reasonable space on the cover. The top of the ring on the left is slightly rotated back into the page, as the top of the ring on the right is rotated forward, out of the book, at the same angle. Through rotation, the rings are no longer perfect circles; rather they become elliptical. This illusion of two ellipses, touching in the center, give the impression of the infinity symbol. I see the rings a rendered with photographic realism, however, they will appear to float in space in front of the background. Where the rings touch may not necessarily be a point, but could overlap; without losing the illusion.
Behind the rings runs an EKG tracing. It runs from the back of the book, across the spine and the front of the book. It stops within the ring on the left, flat-lines, and begins again within the ring on the right. This represents the two hours when I had no heart inside my body during the heart transplant.
The background behind these elements could be a photograph of trees in a forest. Trees are a recurring theme in the book. I have included some personal photos of Aspens in Alaska. The tree element might be faded or muted in some way so as not to overpower the foreground images. I am certainly flexible on how this might be accomplished. I imagine the title and sub-title above these images, possibly on a solid background. My name, Kevin R. Anderson, M.D. would appear at the bottom.
On the back I will include a photograph and the book description.
