The cover design will be very specific, because this book must match the first two novels in the series in style and colour. They have a very specific appearance.
The background colours and black border are non-negotiable (though the border can be minimally altered to better fit the images if necessary)
The red in the image must match the red in the first two covers. I would like other colour (the kneeling girl on the right) to be a strong blue that compliments the red, and of which I have provided a sample in the form of a mock-up I started. [My daughter designed the original, but is unable do do more in the series.]
The typeset must as closely as possible match the titles, subtitles and blurb of the previous two books in style, size and placement.
The Dustie Books publisher logo must go in the position of the previous two novels on both back and spine. On the previous books, the corners were rounded.
I have some old historic files I'd like the cover to be closely based upon:
1. An old St Albans town scene, which I'd like as a background skyline, black & white, but all swords removed (it was originally a post battle scene) which I will provide.
2. A historic image of two women. I'd like the dresses to be coloured: the one standing on the left to be wearing a dress in the same red (and line-drawn style) as the cloak of The Popish Midwife and the ghost of The Ghost Midwife [I played with cutting and pasting from TPM cloak to make her dress, but it obviously needs a good sorting out]. The girl on the right (which I haven't even begun, but have run out of time doing) should be a solid blue (there are patches of the colour I like currently on her dress in the mock-up) and should also be in the same line-print drawing style of the cloak of The Popish Midwife [covers to be provided for reference]
The narrow background lines in the picture of the two girls should be REMOVED so that it is just the girls standing against the St Albans skyline background.
I found a historic image of a 17th century hairstyle and used that on the girl with the red dress. The head/face of the girl with the blue dress needs similarly improving.
Like the first two novels, the paperback trim will be a 5.5 x 8.5 inch (13.97 x 21.59 cm) trim, however, I don't yet know it's spine width until I upload it and get a final page number (It's a 60k book)
I would also like a second version be the same basic design, but will have a wider spine and a sticker added to the front, spine and back.
I have a specific image in my mind and have played with a cover, but so far can't get it right to make it look good. Obviously I want it to look fantastic.
If the winning designer is agreeable, I will also invite them to work with me on future cover designs (book 4 in the series is half-finished and due out this year and I plan at least two more of this series after that. Then there will be other Seventeenth Century books possibly Seventeenth Century Authors). [If the winner would like to, i also have a colour-correction problem (black) on the cover of The Ghost Midwife (two versions) that need to be done for publication of Ingram Spark. So far the covers have been rejected because the black needs correcting and I don't know how to do this.]
