What's your vision?
Cover for a book that is currently on Amazon (CreateSpace) - "Fiddler's Cave," - in both paper and Kindle. The book is 8.5" x 5.5" x 1". Need front, spine, and back; plus Kindle cover page. "Fiddler" is the moral conscience of the story. He is a former Negro League baseball player who used to clown for a team. He has endured much prejudice in his life, but has become a circumspect Morgan Freemanesque type character. Fiddler's Cave is part of a lodge named after Fiddler - "The Lodge at Fiddler's Cave." The story isn't about him personally, per se. The lodge is newly built of large logs and is quite large. The grounds are extensive, with numerous cottages, horse trails, and campgrounds. The protagonist lives in the old, fairly large lodge. Here is the blurb from the back cover: Joseph Harper arrives in his father’s childhood town of Collington. He has sold the company that he and his deceased father built from scratch, and begins renovating the town and the old Collington Lodge to bring it back to its past glory. But Joseph wants to remain anonymous. Before his company’s success, his mother, and then his wife, walked out of his life for wealthy men, emotionally scarring Joseph. He is now wary of any woman's intentions. So, he plans to live in the old lodge building, ostensibly as a friend of the “owner.” A battle for Joseph's heart and properties ensues. Joseph’s expansive home, containing numerous guest rooms, has a constantly changing cast of characters—some brazen, some irascible, and some humorous in their oddities—each with their own agenda. Joseph’s plans for the town anger Edmond Collington. Having failed to convince his sisters to sell the properties to him, Edmond will stop at nothing to acquire what he feels is his birthright. He is one of the few people who know Joseph's true identity and uses the knowledge to plot against him. Edmond’s fanatical obsession leads him to use a beautiful woman, the townspeople's prejudices, and violence in his attempt to force Joseph to sell the properties to him. Will Joseph survive the onslaught? Will he find forgiveness in his heart, and find true happiness? Fiddler’s Cave is a story of obsessions, heartbreak, and finding a lost part of one’s heart. ------------- I've had difficulty envisioning what would be appropriate for the cover. Here are some main story points: --Fiddler plays a sad chant on his violin when something bad happens in the area. --Joseph (protagonist) is leery of women --The old lodge, Joseph's home, is the home of numerous characters --The antagonist, Edmond, is behind a fire that severely damages the town. --Edmond uses prejudice as a weapon (Mexicans are a convenient reason).
Included in the files is a rough idea that I had, but it lacks...something. I pioneered computer graphics as an artist, but my design capabilities have not kept up with the times. After trying to redesign the cover, and having looked at the many samples on this site, my ideas just seem flat and unimaginative. That's where you come in. Something complex? Something with an almost 3D feel? I hand off my CG design to you.
