Toggle is a startup building a service that helps parents & kids / families balance screen time with other activities. It helps parents better manage their ability to transition their kids between online and off line activities and overtime supports children to develop the skills to manage their own time online and offline towards a healthy balance of different activities. Toggle also will enable family based decisions to be made using a distributed interface; empowering kids to better participate in family based decisions and enabling parents a unique way to interact with their kids. Target audiance is parents with kids aged 6 to 12, kids aged 6 to 12 and more fundamentally familiy as a whole. We will also be targetting partners who can provide things to do for kids and families. We think about two distinct and linked groups parents, and kids that are linked through the familiy. Toggle wants to build a service that helps; • families interact and engage more • families find things to do that interest all, so they can spend more time together • enable children to find and interact with their friends and organise their lives in a way parents feel comfortable with • ensure children to be safe online • parents & children manage “screen time” in a non-controlling, non-restrictive way • ensure children are fully exploring the opportunity the Web provides and are accessing a mix of activities and content that is age appropriate • parents understand what their children are doing and seeing online and how it is making them feel • encourage children to do other ‘offline’ things and to get outside without nagging from parents
The idea of balance is a key theme we like, and the toggling between activities. We have this idea of using an online service to incentivise kids and families to spend more time doing things offline. Images that come to mind our; scales, seesaw, pendulum, juggling, kitchen table.
