Alan Dean needed a new button or icon design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 19 designs submitted by 9 freelance designers.
For simplewebservices.org we want an icon that will represent RESTful web services. It should be reminiscent of the standard RSS icon but it should not be able to be confused with RSS.

The visual impression should convey a sense of 'linkage' - as in the hyperlink on a web page. How you achieve that sense is up to your creativity, we do not wish to be prescriptive in the brief.
It is intended that the icon will be free for use by anyone implementing our protocols and so may end up widely used across the web. This may be your opportunity to create something widely recognised - good luck!
The icon should be produced with the following dimensions and color depths:
16x16 8-bit (256 colors)
16x16 24-bit with 8-bit alpha (32-bit)
24x24 8-bit (256 colors)
24x24 24-bit with 8-bit alpha (32-bit)
