Our clients are 75% female entrepreneurs in the US. We don't want to alienate men, but we want to target the market that is working for us - women 30-60 years old who own their own businesses. They are independent, smart, and resourceful, but not necessarily tech savvy. We want to have some fun with the site and make ourselves appear high quality, expensive, and great to work with.
We like subtle emphasis & accents, big and stylish fonts, lightly textured backgrounds, lots of negative space, usage of icons.
Examples of sites we like for a home page:
http://us.moo.com/ - love the horizontal sections of the site, colors, and the way they segment their offerings.
http://www.montylounge.com/ - like the combo of cool typography, quotes, and minimalism.
Like the font on this http://www.revolvedesign.co.uk/#/contact/ , also like the slightly yellow gradient
http://yaronschoen.com/ - love the nerdy testtubes and headlines, as well as his footer.
And an example of a layout we like for the portfolio page:
http://www.jduerr.com/portfolio/smith-teamaker/ - I like the way the information is well organized and there are dotted lines to separate each element of the portfolio detail. Fonts are great too.
Examples of the kinds of design elements we’d be open to for the home page and/or layout are in designelements.zip (but not a requirement)
