I would like a cover page concept for our graphic novel, "Dragon Hunter." Please see the attached document for the narrative of the first issue. We're attempting a serialization. It should give a very clear picture of the characters, but below are some other details:
The main character should be gritty, but handsome and young-ish. Darkish brown hair, medium length, but not too short. Stubble on the face. Light or leather armor with a few metal bits here and there. Should be very practical and simple. No frills. No capes. Simple long sword maybe with a ornate hilt and pummel.
The dragon should be black, about the size of a horse, sleek and feline in build (but still draconic), and menacing and fierce.
Ideally, the cover would be some sort of staged face-off between the dragon and the main character that piques the interest of possible readers. Elements of the other story pieces in the landscape would be neat, but I don't want it to be too busy.
Please include the title "Dragon Hunter: Ferox" and the authors names, "Alexander Wilson" and "P.J. Clements" on the cover.
Otherwise, we're really open to the interpretation of the narrative and seeing what designers come up with on their own. Looking forward to the creations!
Got a lot of great questions overnight from people and many of them were similar in nature so I wanted to post some of the responses:
Style should be comic/graphic novel in nature with a more realistic (as opposed to cartoony) feel.
The setting is more early European renaissance since they have crude flintlocks. The main character may be a little closer to late Norse medieval.
A full figure view is ideal with at least some facial features of the main character and the dragon. I understand a full side view might be a little awkward, so you might just have to put the main characters back to us.
As far as the dragon is concerned, think Toothless from the "How to Train Your Dragon" movies, but more adult and sinister. See attached image.
I've attached some other images of styles/settings I like too. A few of "poses" I like, and a few for the artistic style for graphic novel cover I like.
