Ants on a Melon got their new landing page design by running a design contest:
Design a futuristic homepage for a color changing flashlight
Check out Ants on a Melon's Landing page design contest…
Contest: Redesign my website's homepage: www.antsonamelon.com Instagram: @antsonamelon Founded in 2012, we are Ants on a Melon, a Springfield, Oregon-based manufacturer of color changing flashlights and fiber optic accessories. We work with electronic music festival attendees and high-tech fashion designers looking to enhance user experience, visual appeal, and 3D artistic displays. _________________________________________ First off, thank you for your efforts! I have hosted multiple contests on 99Designs. I will be engaged and offer immediate and honest feedback. If I don't like your design (and I don't think it has potential), I won't waste your time- Your design will respectfully be declined. To keep things fair, this will be a blind contest. I'm planning to redo the product pages on our website as well. The winner will likely be offered the job of redesigning the rest of the site. Please let me know if you have any questions and Good Luck! __________________________________________ I launched this website (www.antsonamelon.com) in 2012. I have made all of the creative decisions since then. I think my website layout can be improved immensely. You will see there is a general layout for the website in the brief below. This is only a suggested layout based upon my design ideas. I want someone who is much better at design to show me how to better attract my customers and encourage them to purchase my products. Please use my current website and other design files and videos for reference in terms of my design taste. I don't have any websites as examples other than my own. I want you to show me how to better sell my products. Surprise me. Main product: RGB Critter What it is: Feature-loaded color changing flashlight that is threaded at the lens allowing users to twist-on a number of accessories such as light sabers, fiber optic whips, DIY fiber optic kits and more. Promo Video (please watch): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smoywuel5tM Current website product page: https://antsonamelon.com/products/rgb-critter-flashlight I want my homepage to showcase the RGB Critter Flashlight. The user needs to understand the uniqueness of this product and that it is threaded at the lens allowing for twist-on accessories that glow/light up. I want you let the user fully understand the product and its main features on the homepage. The user must understand that the RGB Critter has many twist-on accessories. Come up with a creative way to show this and let the user view all of these items on the homepage. Target audience: We have 3 main target audiences 1. Performance artists (circus) at electronic music festivals (think Burning Man) 2. Light Painters (Google: "light painting" 3. DIY high-tech fashion designers (see our Fyber Kit product on current website. Ages: 18-45 All of our target audiences are very creative and they like color. We can be more creative with our website because of this. They like unique and they like bold ideas. Let's grab their attention and hold it!
Dark Futuristic Technical Edgy FONT: The business name "Ants on a Melon" needs to be in "bauer" typeface (attached). You can decide the font for the rest of the layout. COLORS: Black, Neon Green, and some shades of purple highlights. Feel free to add any other color in the rainbow if you think it works! Elements to include in the landing page
DELIVERABLES: See the brief for accepted file types. Also accepting Figma files. _________________________________ FINAL DESIGN: You will need to submit a desktop and mobile version layout. _________________________________ DO YOUR THING: You are welcome to change or add anything you like. I want the website to be different. I want it to be edgy and creative. _______________________________ OPTIONAL LAYOUT (see attached rough drawing) 1. Large banner (see current) 2. MOST IMPORTANT: RGB Critter Flashlight (with features bullet points and scrolling accessories)- See attached drawing. 3. Kickstarter highlight 4. 2+ Product features (medium to large size images showcasing products) 5. Instagram section (1-2 rows of Instagram feed images/video): @antsonamelon 6. Warranty section at bottom. Simple with icons. (Warranty Statement: Backed by Ants on a Melon's Limited Lifetime Warranty) 7. Social media icons 8. Footer navigation ______________________________ The RGB Critter (https://antsonamelon.com/products/rgb-critter-flashlight) is our main product. The RGB Critter is a color changing flashlight that is threaded at the lens allowing the user to twist on a number of accessories. The accessories will light up (glow) when attached to the RGB Critter. The goal of this homepage is to showcase the RGB Critter and its accessories on the homepage. All of the other products on my website are add-on items for this flashlight. It is important that the customer knows the main features of the RGB Critter (in order of importance): 1. Movement Reactive (accellerometer) 2. Sound Reactive 3. Ability to connect 2 RGB Critters back-to-back (see product page here: https://antsonamelon.com/products/double-sided-critter) 4. Brightness Control 5. Fully Programmable with 52 memory slots 6. 33 Color Choices I want you to display the RGB Critter as the focal point, but also allow the customer to view the other accessories on the homepage. It is crucial that the customer understand that the RGB Critter is a threaded color changing flashlight and there are many accessories that attach to this flashlight. I don't think it makes sense to show all of the other accessories on the homepage, but there should be some sort of a navigation, so that the user can view all of the different accessories on the homepage. You can see how the accessories are currently categorized on our website using the drop down menus at the top of the homepage. I want the navigation of the accessories to be unique and interactive. Enlarging images and text with roll-over would be nice. Let me know what you think works best here. Please be creative in how you display the RGB Critter and accessories. I want to generate as many sales from the homepage as possible. If you want to only display the RGB Critter and accessories on the homepage that works for me. I think this can be done and it could be done very effectively. If you think this is a bad idea due to SEO, then add more to the homepage. The RGB Critter needs to be the focal point. The user needs to understand that the RGB Critter is a color changing flashlight that has many twist-on accessory options. The user also needs to know what these accessory options are. Remember, you can do whatever you want for this design and you don't have to follow any of my drawings or layout if you don't want to. I am not worried about development time on the coding side of things. Let's make this exceptional! Bonus! I think it would be great to have a design at the footer of the website that crawls up the sides of the site. Feel free to be creative with this and think futuristic! I want eye catching and unique.
Use any images from my website or the Google Drive folder. It's OK if they are distorted if you need to stretch them (I will update later). Amazing work as always. After initially choosing Domagoj's design for my homepage contest, we decided to work together on the rest of my e-commerce website on Shopify. I couldn't be happier with the results! Domagoj is a consummate professional and very skilled designer. I look forward to many more projects in the future.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
