Art & Design
The Glass Alliance of Northern California is a non-profit organization whose mission is to further the development and appreciation of art made from glass. We often refer to the organization as "GLANC" (pronounced like the word "glance"), so we could have both the acronym and the full name in the logo. Our website is www.glancinfo.org. What do we do? 1. Inform collectors, critics, curators, artists, students and the general public by encouraging and supporting glass art events 2. Produce a quarterly newsletter and maintains a website with a glass events calendar 3. Provide programs including visits to artist studios, tours of galleries, viewing of private collections, and attending lectures and demonstrations by master artists 4. Bring together artists, glass enthusiasts and collectors 5. Support local museums, galleries, and glass schools 6. Support local artists ranging from well-known masters to emerging new talents 7. Sponsor annual trips to exciting glass destinations 8. Provide scholarships for emerging Northern California artists
Logo types to explore
Red, yellow, orange are relevant because so much of glass work involves heat or flamework as part of the process. A gradient in the red/orange/yellow could work well as an indicator of flame. It is not required to have specific artwork that looks exactly like glass, abstract artwork is OK if it fits the theme. The fact that we are in Northern California is not relevant to the logo - we don't need artwork that relates to California in any way (i.e. do not need a beach or the Golden Gate Bridge ;-) Our audience is a mix of professional glass artists, people who collect art, art students, people who appreciate fine art - so it's a variety of knowledge about glass and glass art. Be sure to look at our current website to see the kind of information we cover, and some photos of actual glass artwork. website = glancinfo.org. We want something that looks very contemporary and clean. Simple and elegant is best. We will eventually need versions in color, b/w, grayscale, reverse out, watermark. We will ask for all of these in the final round. Our current logo has both the acronym (GLANC) and the full name. If we can have both without being too cluttered, that will be great. We would like a sans serif font, which is cleaner and easier to read in a logo. GLANC should be all upper case, the full name of the organization could be lower case or mixed case.
