SchülerHaushalt (english: The Students’ Budget) is a project which takes place at schools all over Germany. Students of all ages (between 5 and 18 years old) are participating.
The Students’ Budget is a project which enables young people to involve themselves for their school. They express their ideas, debate, and put in place a project to improve their environment. The Students’ Budget is a first experience of the democratic process which allows to form engaged citizens of tomorrow.
Youngsters recommend ways to improve their school, vote
on the proposals in a secret ballot and work with
school administrators to implement the most popular
suggestions. The students are given a baseline budget
– from the local council, as part of the school‘s
discretionary funds, or as third-party funding – which
they then allocate using the process described above.
