Bolt Energy installs residential solar energy systems (the solar panels that go on roofs). Our vision is to be the largest installer of solar panels in the united states. We are not a consumer facing company because we don't actually sell the systems we install. Other companies sell them and then use us to have them installed. So we're really a B2B company even though we're putting solar systems on people's homes.
HOW WE'RE DIFFERENT
We want to differentiate ourselves from traditional solar installers. Traditional solar installers are just construction companies. They're slow-moving, inflexible, and difficult to deal with. That's not us! We're a team of experienced (but young) solar veterans who are building a modern installation business from the ground up. We use great technology, great people, and tight processes to be 1) fast (installs in less than 4 weeks whereas traditional guys are 3 months), 2) low-cost (solar is a commodity and we need to be the leader), and 3) high quality. We want to be the partner of choice for all companies across America that sell residential solar systems.
We chose the name Bolt Energy because 1) bolt implies fast, 2) bolts are used to secure solar panels to the roof, and 3) lightning bolts are electricity. We intentionally do not have the word "Solar" in our title because every other company already uses some variation of solar or sun.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for a logo that communicates the strength/reliability/trust of a traditional construction company with the progressive/modern/futuristic themes of solar energy. We prefer simple & clean to busy. The slogan "solar installed right" should be placed in such a way that we can hide it if necessary and just keep "Bolt Energy".
WHAT WE'RE NOT LOOKING FOR
All of the traditional solar companies have greens and yellows in their brand. We'd like to stay away from that to stand out. Similary, no images of the sun, or plants or anything else "environmental" that has become cliche by overuse. We think blue is being used successfully by CPF (http://www.cleanpowerfinance.com) and Sunrun (http://www.sunrun.com).
We should stay away from the lightning bolt image because it's closely associated with Bolt the movie. Incorporating a simple, clean image of an actual bolt might be cool.
