Handbound Books, Printmaking & Paper Arts
Art & Design
Sprouts Press hand crafts beautiful and functional journals and hand printed items that spark customers’ creativity and satisfies their wish for the tactile act of putting pen to paper. By using eco-friendly materials when possible, hand tools and producing in small editions, customers enjoy purchasing a well-crafted lifelong product that speaks to them. In essence, Sprouts Press products evoke a down to earth beauty that get the job done with grace and purpose that are never above a bit of wit, cheek and a pop of colour. Position Statement: For people with a creative spirit, who want an inspirational, handmade medium for creative expression, Sprouts Press is a hand bindery, printmaking and paper arts studio that provides beautiful, functional hand bound journals and hand printed products made from the heart. The company prides itself in communicating the passion of its craft by giving customers a tactile adventure to select the perfect journal that will become a lifelong companion. Materials we use: reclaimed leather, handmade paper, fancy printed papers (chiyogami, Florentine, etc), beeswaxed linen thread. Pretty much: things with a tactile quality that represent the joys of writing or sketching by hand. Target market: Women aged 30-60 in downtown Toronto that earn between $50,000 and $80,000, that have a creative spirit and place a premium on quality products. *Or, people buying for our target market. **Additionally, we do sell worldwide online and participate in fairs and markets locally. ***IMPORTANT: The main product we create are hand bound blank books: journals, sketchbooks, albums, etc. They are made by hand with love and passion, using hand tools, the old-fashioned way.*** We believe in the handmade and local movements and supporting small businesses.
Logo types to explore
*****NEW ADDITIONAL NOTE****** I've decided to extend the contest for a few reasons, to give everyone a chance to digest feedback, but mostly to open up the contest to more image-based designs. After starting the contest, I've realized that I'd really love to see a logo that incorporates some sort of image of a book, or bookbinding or a book press, not just my company name. I also think it's important to mention that having 'Sprouts Press' all on the same line in the design is important to my business. If you want to roll up your sleeves and hand-draw something, I'm totally open to that!! If you have any questions, please ask! I try to give feedback as quickly as possible, sometimes it's only once a day though, so bear with me please. Thanks to everyone who has submitted designs so far; there are some real gems!! **Most Important: I would love a logo that focuses on the book binding rather than the printmaking. -A quick brainstorm of possible images might be (but not limited to): one book (open or closed), more than one book, book press, etc. I'm open to other interpretations appropriate to a creative company that hand-binds books. -Please, no pink (or 'cutesy crafter') -An additional note: I will most likely be printing this design also onto fabric: muslin bags (packaging) and aprons (for the workshop/studio) and using it online (avatar, banners, social media) and business cards - everywhere! I don't know if this matters or not but thought I'd mention it to add a bit more knowledge and understanding. -To see samples of my work and understand my aesthetic, please visit my etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/sproutspressdesigns and also my website: http://www.sproutspress.com That's all, thank you! ps. Have fun and get creative!!!
