Loparka's design was originally a contender in a contest I ran here a couple years ago. I always liked and remembered her design but was talked into awarding the original win to someone else. I regret this for the last few years and finally got in touch with her to make it right, and pay her for her excellent work! It is elegant, well composed, beautiful to look at and just the right touch of classic and modern. Mahalo Nui Loa from Hawaii!
How Scott Cahill started their logo design journey
Laurent Doll was founded to bring high quality design & manufacturing to both American Girl and other 18 inch doll furniture, doll clothing and young girl clothing. Our furniture is manufactured of quality hardwood, uses mortar and tenon joints and comes in multiple finishes. Where appropriate, our furniture is adorned with classy, attractive linens.
Our matching doll and child dresses strive to make every doll owner and her doll feel special in charming “party dresses” for those special occasions that arise in every girl’s life. Textile choices include enchanted chiffon and taffeta to delight every wearer as she “swishes” across the floor.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Moms and grandparents of young girls aged 7-12. We are positioning ourselves as a quality/ luxury brand for our segment so our logo should reflect a more upscale, traditional look that is also fun and speaks to the fact that we make things for kids. We chose a french name to reflect this brand positioning as well.
You can see our current website at http://www.laurentdoll.com. The entire site and product line are being overhauled because frankly they are not good-and that means the logo, website, product line and product pricing. Other sites to look at include http://www.americangirl.com and http://www.strasburgchildren.com. American Girl is the doll that we are targeting and Strasburg Children sells similar dress styles at the price points we also sell.
We are selling doll clothing & furniture and young girls clothing, so the logo needs to be a balance between a traditional image that would reflect quality/upscale positioning and fun for children. We recognize this is not an easy thing to pull off since they are somewhat contradictory requests. The goal is to make the parents comfortable with buying from us and that they are getting a quality, upscale product that their kids or grandkids will love and love to play with or wear.
We hope to extend the brand to young girls and boys clothing and then children's furniture, in which case we would change the name to Laurent (dropping Doll from the name). This is something to consider as you design.
We prefer a logo that incorporates the name into the logo design but preferably would include some sort of icon treatment as well.
Preferred but not required colors are Pink R 252 G 234 B 241 and Brown R 93 G 43 B 42
