The colour palette of our clothing line pops with corals, aquas, neons, silver, a green ('cool aqua') and a host of other bold colours with beautiful, contemporary prints like geometrics, ombrés and kaleidoscopes.
In designing the logo, it is worth bearing in mind that it may need to stand out against these bold textile colours, so it should be SIMPLE and strong, but we are also looking for your guidance and expertise on the use of colour.
Is it better to limit the logo to perhaps one or two colours? Is there an element of the logo that can change colour in different contexts?
The logo will need to have a black and white version for certain uses (and hi-res and jpeg file formats).
We would definitely like a graphic symbol that we can use as well as the Danspiration lettering and, as above, we may want to use the “D” (or even “DSP”) as a standalone shorthand to refer to the brand.
In terms of font / lettering, the style should be modern, ‘fashion forward' and reflect the brand personality as described above.
Note: although this is a tween brand, the logo shouldn’t skew too young as the brand needs to be aspirational to the 11-14 year olds whilst staying appropriate for the younger age 7-10 end of our target market.
We would like the three elements (ie. graphic symbol, “Danspiration” word, and tagline) to work together OR separately.
Danspiration – Concepts behind the brand name
Creating fantastic DANCEwear for girls was the INSPIRATION for our brand and the reason we are starting this business.
DANCE and INSPIRATION are terms that speak clearly to our target market. They are familiar with word mash-ups (Instagood etc) so DANSPIRATION is a meaningful, modern mash-up!
Our girls are creative and not afraid to dream. When they dance they are absorbed in the moment. A quote that appears on one of our tops is “Dance. Live. Dream”. This sums up the spirit of the brand – creative, inspiring, free to express oneself through dance. Also to inspire a healthy lifestyle through fitness in general.
In conclusion, we are hoping for a logo that:
· reflects the brand
· is simple yet strong enough to be easily reproduced on clothing and woven labels etc with impact
· uses a great font / powerful lettering, potentially being able to separate out the “D” or “DSP"
· contains a strong graphic element that can be used and recognised in isolation (for example on a textile print)
· appeals to our target audience of style-savvy girls age 7-14
. tells part of the brand story, and adds value to the name Danspiration.
