We are an AlphaLab funded startup building a service at DeviceKnit.com that helps people make better use of electronics they have.
It allows people to build an inventory of electronics. We use this in conjunction with a database of the different ports and connectors devices have to help users discover user-submitted physical mashups that combine different devices to accomplish something cool. We show users how to connect their different devices to achieve these physical mashups, showing them new uses they may be able to get out of devices they already have.
Check out some information about it at http://DeviceKnit.com (under Click Here to Learn More About DeviceKnit ) to learn more.
Our target audience is mainly 'gadget' or 'tech' people. It will probably be tech-savvy people who have boxes of electronics, cables, and adaptors around the house and have cool ideas for things they can do with them, or want to be inspired by other things people are doing with the same devices.
It would be cool if there an icon next to the name with some kind of knitting reference, like a ball of yarn, knitting needles with a cable wrapped around it, but that is not critical.
We want to keep it pretty simple. The web app is going to have a very clean design, so we don't want too many different colors or images going on in the logo.
Another angle we were thinking is something with a box or bin overflowing with electronics and cables, as long as it is doesn't get too complicated.
All this being said, we are very open to anything clean and simple that gets across the ideas of the DeviceKnit app.
Included is what we are currently using for a logo and a graphic from our promotional site that shows a basic overview of the app.
We are open to color schemes other than the green and white that have been used on the temporary logo and site so far. Anything that makes the logo feel like what the service is supposed to do.
