How Rudy Lacovara started their logo design journey
HireFlo is the Basecamp of applicant tracking systems. We're a software as a service application that provides small businesses with a mini-jobsite that they can have on the Jobs tab of their website. The real value of HireFlo is that we enable small businesses to replace their current jobs page (static HTML with a contact email address), with an application that allows them to track job postings, track applicants, and track their progress through the company's hiring workflows.
We are basically taking a type of application that's been around for 10 years but is completely targeted to large companies, and we're making it simpler and more affordable so that it's accessible to the small business market.
Don't bother trying to find the website, it isn't up yet. We're about to enter a private beta and there is nothing available to the public right now.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Our audience is small business owners, small business managers, small business human resources professionals, and managers at professional services associations (like CPA America, etc.).
The key concepts that we'd like to see in a logo are people and simple. There is also a possibility to get the concept of workflow into the logo somehow, but really the focus is people.
We're looking for a very simple, clean design that will still look good even when scaled to a size just 30px tall. That's important. The version of the logo that most of our customers will see every day is just 30px high so it needs to look good at that size. The logo must work on both a black background and a white background. In fact we ask that all submissions include variants with both a white and black background. If the logo can't be quickly and easily reversed it's probably not going to work for us.
The attached screenshot shows the color scheme and look and feel of the HireFlo application. In the upper right corner you will see a placeholder logo that we've been using. We do not want a stack of blocks for a logo but it gives a feel for the simplicity of design we're looking for, and the size the logo needs to scale down to. BTW, the placeholder logo has our name spelled incorrectly. The application name is HireFlo. It has no "w".
