Louis XIV got their new logo design by running a design contest:
New logo wanted for DIT, or Deep Imaging Technologies, or eEM (tm)
Check out Louis XIV's Logo design contest…
DIT is a startup aimed at bringing new technology-- enhanced electromagnetics (which we cal eEM (tm))-- to the imaging of the subsurface on land. The major applications are in the oil & gas industry: exploration in new areas, fracking, and reservoir management. It will also be used in mining, geothermal, and viewing acquifers. eEM works by sending an electromagnetic wave into the ground and picking up signals from it over a large area that are affected by the deposits or other anomalies deep underground. Usually, a single source generates the wave; the signals from it are picked up by dozens of receivers that are deployed in an array on the surface. The data captured by the receivers is then processed by large computers to form a two-dimensional, or even a three dimensional image of the underground. We sell these images. Our target is geologists and geophysicists who work for oil, mining, or environmental companies.
Logo types to explore
Don't get scared by the equations in the documents above. Just look at the one or two electromagnetic wave diagrams to give you a feel for what they look like. (I would have cut them out but couln't find a way to copy just them.) If that doesn't help, just go with the image that comes to you from the words I used above to describe what we are doing.

Matt did a great job and was super responsive to what I wanted even though he had no competition. He's an honest guy and a hard worker who delivers on his promises. Can't recommend him enough.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
