Medical & Pharmaceutical
The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St George's Hospital in London needs an identity. It provides critical care to children with cancer, infectious diseases, trauma (such as head injury) and other diseases that lead children to need to be on a life support machine. The PICU exists within a Children's department, which in turn exists within one of the largest public hospitals in the UK, St George's Hospital in London. We need an identity to help raise our profile. This logo will sit on our letter head and also on our web site. Other Children's services at St George's have used the St George and the dragon story to develop names for departments; the children's clinic is named 'The Dragon Children's Centre', and has a dragon sculpture outside of the main entrance. I am not convinced that the dragon motif would sit well within the context of a PICU but the St George, with his red cross on a white background shield may. If possible it would be good to highlight our specialist area of providing critical care for children with cancer.
Logo types to explore
The st george's logo above is the academic logo for the medical school. The NHS logo above would have to sit with the new logo and therefore should not clash with it. The corporate font for letters and website is Arial, although I think Arial is too cold for this design the graphics used should complement it. The GOSHcharity.jpg is the most successful children's hospital logo in the UK recently featuring in the London 2012 opening ceremony, the challenge is to come up with something as effective as this. The stock-vector-saint-george-with-dragon give s an image of St George fighting the dragon with his sword and defending himself with a shield The logo 'from clipboard' is an example of a design that one of our competitors uses, it's not to my taste but it gives and example of what is currently used. Virgin Care seem to use red in a health related logo quite effectively. Could the cartoon of the knight I have uploaded be the inspiration for a design for St George, this could then form the main image for the logo?
