I am building a website and mobile apps for the new type of a service that is focused to mountain towns, aka ski resorts. Think of it like a next generation local news paper, where anyone can contribute news, announcements, photos, location info, etc.
We want to look like a Yelp.com for the outdoor enthusiasts, fun, modern, colorful and somehow very much matching with the brands like http://www.Twitter.com, http://www.Foursquare.com and http://www.Gowalla.com
Target audience is same as for Twitter, but with the outdoor twist. This is not a youth brand, but rather for 25-50 years old active outdoor people, and business owners. Also big outdoor brands got love Zherpa as we want them onboard as sponsors. But as said, business-to-business will be a big part of our business as we are also giving local business owners a tools to do location based and social marketing.
I think Yelp is a great example of a logo that looks great and works for people of all ages.
I tell you how site will look like: It will look like Digg.coms new version http://new.digg.com, so site will have tons of white with a simple feed on a middle. It is important that logo works well on mainly white website - giving it personality and color.
I personally love yellow and orange, so all our dummy graphics now carry those colors - hopefully logo will too! But, if you have a great idea for other colors in mind, please submit!
Also, it would be great if Zherpa-logo has an element that could be used as map pinpoint (waypoint) as we will do tons of map views for news, photos, etc. so that when user puts mouse-over the map pinpoint, it will expand (or some other way show more info.
Zherpa, as you probably know, is a play with the name Sherpa which means Nepalese mountain carrier, a support to climbers and all-around trustful helper.
Then also, it is important that logo is not winter focused as Zherpa, just like these mountain towns operate year around.
Another point is that it would be great if logo has a version that works well with town name, like for example Zherpa Breckenridge, etc. This is secondary point, so most important is that logo works well by itself.
