---------------- Description updated ----------------- ABOUT OUR BUSINESS We sell speciality coffee in Sutton, Quebec in Canada. Sutton is located in a valley and is surrounded by beautiful round-top mountains where people come from Montreal and all over to mountain-bike, hike, ski and all sorts of nature activities all year long. We roast modern (third wave) coffee, we focus on unique and nuanced flavours, and roast our coffee lighter than people traditionally have had available in Sutton. So in a way, we are taking a chance and blazing a new trail here. Our brand is about feeling uplifted and inspired - and sharing our passion with others. WHY YAMABIKO? We named our company Yamabiko, which is a Japanese word. The word refers to the echo effect when you yell in the mountains and hear the sound come back to you. The sound coming back to you is meant to be a voice from "the spirit of the mountain". We thought the idea of the mountain having a spirit was beautiful and because we too are so inspired by the mountains we thought this was perfectly suiting. "The Spirit of the Mountain" can also have a physical form, like an animal in the mountain. This is inspired by the Japanese animated movie "My Neighbour Totoro". In this film Totoro is a character, and he is "the spirit of the forest", but he is also a large lovable animal. OUR CUSTOMERS We are looking for something simple and easy to remember. Our customers tend to be between 25-55 years old, generally they are very active in mountain sports and are inspired by nature. A large amount of our customers are tourists from Montreal, and they like to buy something unique from the mountain town and bring it back home. DESIGN INSPIRATIONS As for colours, we are always open minded. However, we are not a big fan of really bright colours such as pink or purple. We would prefer colours that are more ties to nature. We have attached a few logos below from a coffee roaster in Melbourne called Seven Seeds & a very talented designer, Lisa Marie. We find that many people locally are inspired by Japanese culture so I want to provide a bit more background about me. A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF My name is Nahoko. I grew up in Tokyo, Japan and moved to Sutton Quebec with my partner to join his family. My name came from my dad's favourite flower and mountain in Japan. ( Nanohana flower & Hodaka mountain ) Since I now live in Canada, and very far from my home, I wanted to bring some Japanese words to Sutton so that I can remember and feel things from my home. Yamabiko was the thing I used to do with my family and friends when I was little in the mountain. You scream 'Yahho-' to the mountain and you get an echo back so that you feel like you are talking with a mountains or a spirit of mountain! If you can connect Sutton and Japan in our logo somehow, that would be very cool! WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR MY LOGO IS - Free flowing and organic looking - Warm colours - Yamabiko (echo effect when you yell in the mountains and hear the sound come back to you) if it's possible, otherwise the art that has story behind - Thin lines - Playfull design ＊ Coffee cups or beans don't have to be in the logo. ＊ Sun doesn't have to be in the logo. ( It's okay to be in but not necessary ) ＊ Our coffee cups and bags are White so any colours that work with it would be great! We are looking to get a logo that we can use for our coffee bags and other coffee branding. However we would love to use it for our website, and for our instagram logo! We are very excited to seeing your designs! Please feel free to contact us anytime! Thanks :)
