BridgeTown Inc. - "Transformation Trips"
BridgeTown Inc. is an inner city non profit focused on reaching out to the poor of the Portland, Oregon area. We do this in some very creative ways one of them is by bringing in young people from all over the US to involve them in the life of the poor and marginal of the inner city of PDX.
This is really a learning environment designed to help students understand the plight of others in the world both local and abroad. They learn about homelessness and inner city poverty, as well as personal leadership. Our desire in these trips to to continue to help young people see that they can be a movement of grace and love in the world around them. We do this by immersing them in environments that provide them with these experiences that bring about life change and leadership development. We are faith based (Christ followers) people that run a public non profit. We try to incorporate the teachings of Christ without being "religious" or judgmental. We see the work that we do as an expression and believe that Christ would be doing similar works if he were here in the flesh with us today. We seek to understand and share Christ through service and education.
You can check out our web site @ http://www.bridgetownministries.com
Our audience is a mixed group but primarily ages 12 - 25. Jr. High thru College young adults. We market this to youth pastors and youth workers of local churches.
The people that come are usually people that live in the suburbs and are looking to make a difference.
I want this to be as creative as possible. Not to abstract but eye catching and something that students would want to wear on a tshirt etc.
Our words are - "GO, Learn, Return and Respond." The Trips are called: "Transformation Trips" so if these could be worked in these that would be great.
We are doing these in Portland, Oregon so if that could be incorporated that would be awesome as well.
The trips really take them out of their world into someone elses world. In the church world they call them short term "missions trips" but we really want to change that focus by calling them learning trips..... seeing what great things are already going on around the world that they live in, then challenging them to go back to their own world and make a difference.
These trips really help to change peoples paradigms and show them how they can make a difference in the world around them.
