SUMMARY We're an academic tech startup who creates noninvasive surgery and biopsy devices to treat and diagnose diseases. We seek funding from government bodies and charities and recruit and train passionate and intelligent students and researchers who study and build novel medical devices that will save or improve patients' lives. Our products are: (1) New discoveries, methods, and devices reported as publications in scientific journals (2) Patents and startup companies (3) Highly trained, skilled, and innovative researchers (PhD graduates and postdocs) For more information, visit http://www.nsblab.org LOGO CRITERIA We are seeking a logo that embodies the concept of noninvasive surgery & biopsy. We currently use focused ultrasound, but will eventually use light, magnetism, etc., to manipulate tissue deep in our body. This allows us to gently, safely, and effectively probe or alter tissue in a small focal volume without effecting the surrounding tissue. So, this means no incision, no invasive procedures. We are seeking an image in a style that embodies 'cutting-edge research', 'innovation', and 'being elite in the field'. We would like the logo with a background colour of white, black, and another color of your choice. We are open to various colour schemes, fonts, etc. LOGO USES (1) Website http://www.nsblab.org (2) Conference presentations (3) Laboratory coats. (4) Mugs, stationary, pengs, etc. All for researchers working in the lab. FURTHER DETAILS Vision Our vital organs – our heart, brain, and liver – are located deep in our body and encased by protective structures, such as the skull and rib cage. Yet when the unexpected occurs and a man is diagnosed with liver cancer or an elderly lady loses her memory, the organ’s inaccessibility poses a serious impediment to treatment. Our research aims to overcome these barriers by enabling physicians to operate on vital organs deep in our body using incision-less ultrasound-based microsurgical devices and methods. For patients, this implies not only accessible, pain-less, and infection-free techniques, but also potent therapeutic and diagnostic capabilities never achieved before. Our current focus is on three research themes: drug delivery through molecular and cellular surgery, drug enhancement through fluid micropumping, and tissue stiffness imaging through remote palpation. Background The Noninvasive Surgery & Biopsy Laboratory was recently founded in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London (Ranked #6 in the world by USNews). Our primary function is to perform cutting edge research that will have a high impact on society. Think of us as an academic tech startup that creates novel medical devices that can eliminate cancer, identify the presence of liver fibrosis, and treat or diagnose other diseases. We're extremely passionate and intelligent and run a fast paced, efficient, and creative laboratory. As examples, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound Imaging, X-Rays, etc. were all created in an academic laboratories such as ours. Companies license our technologies or purchase our small start-up companies and that's why you don't hear about us. Audiences (Primary 1) Funding bodies. Government agencies and charities fund our research and we need to show that we're cutting edge and brilliant. (Primary 2) Potential researchers and students. The researchers and students (e.g., PhD students) comprise the core of the laboratory and we want to recruit bright, passionate, and intelligent individuals. (Secondary 1) Potential scientific and clinical collaborators. We collaborate with clinicians, physicists, medics, chemists, engineers, you name it. We want to show that we're the best in our field and so they should collaborate with our laboratory. (Secondary 2) Potential industrial collaborators. We want to translate this technology to the clinic, and so we'll need to work with companies to get it there. Potential collaborators would be GE Healthcare, Siemens, Philips, Roche, GlaxoSmithKline, and other medical device and pharmaceutical companies.
