RAIN DIVA
I have been a hairdresser for 30 years. My career has been an exciting one, having taken me from London to LA and New York. My life is a little more subdued and I live in Toronto with my family.
When I owned my own salon my clients would constantly complain that the weather (usually rain) was going to destroy their hairstyle. I was frustrated along with them, for I had nothing available to offer them to solve this problem. There have been cheap plastic bonnets that look very grandmotherly and of course umbrellas, which don't really work that well in driving rain.
Unencumbered by business obligations I have gone about developing a stylish rain hat that has a unique pocket at the back into which the bulk of the hair goes. This protects the hair completely and does not flatten the style. The hat is currently being patented and fine tuned for production.
It will be made from an environmentally friendly waterproof fabric created from from discarded coconut shells.
The hat is crush-able and will fold neatly into itself and become a small pack onto which the logo etc will be printed. No other packaging is anticipated. When folded it will look very much like the fold-able tote bags we see for sale at grocery stores.
The product will be shipped in packs of 20 and should be able to be displayed in a counter-top box. The logo will be printed on this as well.
This product will initially be targeted towards ladies hair salons and their clients. This could be expanded with demand to drugstores or apparel stores. Either way it should appeal to females of any AGE and ETHNIC group.
It should be thought of as a spontaneous purchase reflected in the retail price below $20.
The hat has an esoteric almost retro feel about it when it is worn, however it should be marketable to all age and ethnic groups.
The existing competitive product is a cheap PVC bonnet that hasn't changed it's design or packaging for forty years and does not appeal to a younger demographic. In fact most salons do not even offer them for this reason. Visuals should reflect a newer more modern image but not alienate potential users because of age. Likewise, if the image is too retro it could potentially alienate younger buyers.
The hat will initially be produced solely in black. Because we will be printing directly onto the product simplicity of colour and design is paramount.
Although one other colour can be added for use such as business cards this has to be easily transformed to allow for one colour print on product.
I.e background colour could be added on business card for aesthetic reasons.
The design has to look equally as attractive and clear on a business card as it does when being enlarged onto the display box. The product print will be the size of a business card.
The design can reflect usage of product but this is not essential.
Rain Diva is registered for trade mark. Please incorporate the "R" symbol for registration.
Feel free to use the name as you feel it graphically works best. Upper or lower case. Capitals, divided or make raindiva one word, you decide.
I like the title "Style Waterproofed" as tag line. But don't feel like you have to use it.
Unfortunately because of ongoing patenting issues I can't provide an image of the product itself in a forum such as this. The hat itself looks like a well made bucket hat with a brim about two inches thick that extends around the perimeter.
The pocket can be folded away when not required and is not seen from the front.
I'm sorry if this description seems insufficient.
Thanks for considering this project.
