Austin-based start-up SCHUBERT'S LOFT will bring live classical music out of the churches and concert halls and into a comfortable-yet-chic urban art house setting.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
I need a logo for a new company in Austin, Texas, SCHUBERT'S LOFT, that produces intimate classical music "salon concerts" for 40 guests at a time in a comfortable-yet-chic urban art house setting. The concept is to bring classical music out of the stiffness of churches and concert halls and into a warm, relaxed atmosphere where people can enjoy great food and wine, be close to the music and get to know the performers. It's classical music meets jazz club meets salon concert meets wine bar meets party. The company is named after Viennese composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828), heralded for his terrific output of lyric and passionate art songs, chamber music, solo piano music and symphonies, regarded as "the first Bohemian", and known for getting together with friends in their homes to have salon concerts, or parties centered around music-making known as "Schubertiads". He only lived 31 years, but his short life was filled to the brim with friends, art and music. I am a classical pianist that just left a cushy but boring academic job in northeast Ohio to "follow my muse"; that led me back to Austin, Texas (where I went to graduate school) to be among friends, a musical community that I adore, sunshine and great food. I have always been interested in developing new audiences for classical music, showing people that it can be exciting, hip, passionate, relevant and interesting food for the soul.
