scottfischbein needed a new logo design and created a contest on 99designs.

Logo for wedding and portrait photography business. Business name is: "See Light Photography". Logo should subtly, artistically reference light, lighting, etc. Must be stylish and visually interesting, uncluttered and distinctive.
See Light Photography
UPDATE: OK, I think I've got the technology angle fairly well covered.
I'd really like to see some images that are more abstract/subtle now.
Some of the feedback I'm getting from my photographer friends and my
former clients is that the logos I'm leaning towards are too "techy"
and give away my status as a gear geek... and since my target audience
is future brides, that might not work so well. So something a bit more
elegant, less tech-oriented. I like #100 and #125 in this regard...
would be interested in seeing what others come up with. If you have any
questions, feel free to ask. Thanks!
I am rebranding my wedding photography business. The new business name will be See Light Photography.
I try to make creative use of photographic lighting, and would like that expressed in the logo, but in a subtle way the evokes the idea of light, without hitting the viewer over the head with it. This is probably the most important, and most challenging part of the design. I want something that clearly says "Light" but without being cheesy and obvious... a light bulb MIGHT work, if done creatively, but some other ideas would be great to see - if I could think of them, I'd do it myself, but that's what I need you brilliant designers for ;)
Although I'm primarily a wedding photographer, I do other types of photography as well, so the logo shouldn't be tied to wedding photography.
There should be some distinction between the three words "See" "Light" and "Photography," and will primarily be used full color but the logo should work in color as well as B/W (please provide samples of both).
No clip art or images of lights, cameras, etc (maybe a stylized "bulb" would be OK, but nothing more obvious than that).
Another idea (take it or leave it... you're the designers...) is to have the words See and Light separated by some image that evokes lighting.
My current website is: http://www.readyforyourcloseup.com, (note: my current business name is Fischbein Photography and I'll be changing to See Light Photography, along with that domain name, after I have the logo).
- evocative of light/lighting - very important
- useable in color or B/W
- Logo will be superimposed on various photographs, so should work well
on different colored backgrounds (light/dark, etc.) and ideally have
some transparency so that the photo is not completely blocked by the
logo. See current website for example (ie: "Fischbein Photography" logo in upper right corner). A SINGLE version should be legible against a dark or light background, NOT two different versions (one for light, one for dark)
- scalable to work on business card, stationery and website
- stylish and modern
- elegant font is OK, but not too "breezy" or lightweight - something substantial/bold
- clean/uncluttered
- original photoshop/illustrator files
- names of all fonts used in the logo
- ideally horizontally rectangular in format (ie: 2-3x wider than high) so that it can easily be placed at the bottom of a photo without adding lots of extra white space.
- cheesiness
- clip art
- images of cameras or photographers (lights are OK)
