Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We are a bilingual charity organisation that supports youth between the ages of 14 to 24 in Hong Kong. Our programmes and services focus on drug and alcohol prevention and intervention and are especially designed to tackle the root causes of abuse, including boredom, peer pressure, lack of self-awareness, low self-esteem, poverty, unemployment, and discrimination. This particular programme in which our youth are making a book for is called “RISE!”, which is a leadership programme that focuses on mentoring ethnic minority youth for community participation and integration. (For this programme, we are partnering with the Department of Applied Social Sciences in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University). Our book’s target audience is the general public of Hong Kong.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
As we're asking for the whole book's design, it would include the cover and the pages inside (about 20 pages). The title will be “We As One”. The book's general theme is ‘diversity’. We'd like to create a “how to” book that inspires young ethnic minorities to become involved in our civic society, Hong Kong. The format of the book can be that of a conventional booklet, but we encourage for the sake of maintaining the youths’ wishes and interests, that the designs of the pages be creative, youth-centric, and outside the box when presenting this information.
We'd like the book to look like something that will inspire ethnic minority youth, rather than trying to start a movement. We do not want to link it to anything political. The content of the book is not yet finalised, but we would just like to see the designs first, how they can reflect the content of the pages.
