My intent is to apply (and win) a business development executive job at a tech company.
The CEO has built his company cultures around play. In order to work in the company, he has a few “rules” (this always makes me think of Calvinball from Calvin and Hobbes).
Come to play, come to learn
Always bring a ball
Commit to kick the ball
Never kick each other
He said to “serve him a ball,” and he promised to kick it back. So for my application, I am sending him a ball of sorts with my intent inside. I created a ball-ish (gnarly) shape from a beautiful Pecan Burl. I am insetting a lock mechanism that will hold a USB stick with my application (resume and cover letter).
This is where you come in. The Treasure Map Comic is to provide instructions on how to view my application.
He will receive the ball in a box via the mail. The box will contain the Treasure Map Comic, the ball, and a key mechanism to release the USB stick. He will have to remove the ball from the box, insert the key mechanism into the hole, turn the key, release the USB stick, and view the best darn applicant he’s ever seen for his Business Development Executive position.
I would like the Treasure Map Comic to be depictive and clever. I have in mind something like http://www.monkeyuser.com or http://www.xkcd.com. The Comic title should probably say something about what the Treasure is (his new Business Development Executive). Anything Treasure Map style is also always fun…everyone likes finding treasures.
Other potentially important facts:
If you show the CEO, he has a hand written and signed note framed behind his desk from his original investor. If you are looking at him you can see it over his right shoulder.
The CEO is an inventor, entrepreneur, family man (5 kids), all-round solid guy, techie, and creative thinker.
