Hello Designers! We need your help giving a new, modern look to an old
existing office building!!!!
Now only will you win the prize money for this contest.... but I will
continue working with the winner 1-on-1 to finalize the design.
(We will agree on a price for the second phase.)
Client wants to do a similar application to what was done to this
If you look on the web site photo gallery, you will notice before and
after photos.(I have also attached the files).
Important things to consider when designing a "new look" for this
1.) The client does not have the budget to make large structural
changes. Instead, he wants to achieve the "modernized look" by the
use of new paint colors, adding facade panels, exterior sunshades,
landscaping, lighting, and other unique design elements.2.) He loves
the grayscale color scheme that was used on the "1640 Sepulveda
building." Please keep to a gray
color palette (warm or cool). If you must use another color - please
use sparingly. He wants to keep the design simple, clean, and modern.
Please be sure you identify the paint colors you use on the project -
sherwin williams, benjamin moore, dunn-ewards, pms/pantone colors,
3.) You do not have to be an architect for this contest. This is a
more of a 2D study of how to improve the look of the building. I
would prefer you use the attached elevations to submit your ideas. If
you must use a 3D model, please use it only to help show detail that
not be visible by 2D elevations. It is more important that you get
your 'design ideas' across effectively. (In fact we will be using
your ideas to generate our own 3D model.)
4.) The building owner does want to bring more attention to the
entrance. There is an opportunity to make it more exciting than it is
currently. Think about signage, a new canopy, and other entrance
Other things to consider -
1.) Is there landscaping you can add to the building to make it more
2.) Can you add small design elements to give it a more modern feel?
Light fixtures, facade panels, etc.
3.) Is there lighting ideas to make this building standout?
I would suggest looking at other sites for ideas for modern commercial
**** For what it is worth... please take a look of my example
elevations of updating the building. (see attached).
1.) "Building Elevations" - Use this file to add colors and design
elements in a 2D application of your choice (Photoshop, Illustrator,
etc.). I can also provide this in a vector format or a SketchUP file.
If you must need a 3D model, please go to this link to download the 3D
model (Keep in mind... I am more interested in the 2D detailed
2.) "Original Building" - This is what the building looks like now. I
add more photos of the existing building. The image I show is the
back of the building. The front is identical to the back. However,
the front has an entry/canopy element (see 2D elevation).
You can also search on Google Earth for the address for more views -

3.) Before - This is an example of an office building that did a
type renovation. This is the the before look of the building.
4.) After - This is an example of what the exterior of the building

example. More images can be found at http://www.1640sepulveda.com/
