Food & Drink
We are a new contract brewery in Czestochowa, Poland that brews high quality craft beer in small batches. Target audience are people >18 that love the taste of great, handmade beer and are willing to pay a little extra for it. Poland & chosen european countries are the target markets at the moment.
What's your vision?
We a are looking to have a beer label concept described below. That although somewhat different from each other, when taken together are supposed to form a label concept that will distinguish Fabryka Piwa as a brewery. Unlike the typical concepts in which the beers differ just by colour, we would like to have them differing by the image/collage that is described below. You can either present the 3 designs upfront or you are welcome to begin from just one design (for a chosen beer - see more info below) and extend the general idea to the other two labels over the course of the contest once you know we like it. What we need on the label in general: -text in Polish and English (see later), so please pay attention to the font used that should contain ł,ż,ź,ó etc. -our logo, preffered black, but could be in any colour that fits the label (AI files are attached), -room for a barcode -ABV percentage (e.g. alc. 4.7% vol. / alk. 4.7% obj.) -degrees Plato (e.g. 15º Plato) -volume (e.g. 500ml) -"Brewed in EU for Fabryka Piwa Sp. z o.o." -it must have "Beer/Bier/Bière/Cerveza/Piwo/Pivo/Øl" -tiny place for an "best before / najlepiej spożyć przed" -there should be room for a short beer description. (3-5 sentences, 50-100 words in total, please see below, one for each beer type) - Size: W:190mm H:90mm (feel free to play around with the overall shape, but we will accept a rectangle with no problems) - Bottle type: needs to fit the bottle type called "Amber" - The above brings me to the topic of the letters. According to the law they need to be at least 1.2 mm in size (height). Moreover, the 500ml sign needs to be 4 mm in size. - slogan: "Craft beers, masterly crafted." What we need for the 3 beers: ### Name: "Deep Space" - type: Foreign Extra Stout - about the beer: "A foreign extra stout that is as dark as deep space with a rich body and a smooth feel on the palette. Enjoy the roasted flavours and the coffee aromas in this slightly dry craft beer. / Foreign extra stout, jest ciemny jak otchłań kosmosu, ma gładką teksturę i bogatą paletę smaków. Ciesz się prażonymi i kawowymi aromatami w tym nieco wytrawnym piwie." ### Name: "Summer memories" - type: American Wheat - about the beer: "This is an American wheat beer, a popular thirst-quencher so light that it could re-create the feel of summer all year round. Simple on the palette, this beer leaves the refreshing flavours of wheat malts in the mouth. / To amerykańskie pszeniczne piwo jest tak lekkie i orzeźwiające, że przywołuje uczucie lata bez względu na porę roku. Ugaś pragnenie ciesząc się nieskomplikowanym pszeniczym smakiem. " ### Name: "Hoppy hour" - type: American Pale Ale - about the beer: "Hops, hops and away! Dive into this American Pale Ale containing a carefully chosen blend of American hops. This beer is full of fruity, floral and citrus notes which are well-balanced against a medium hop bitterness. / Zasmakuj skrupulatnie dobranych amerykańskich chmieli! Dołożyliśmy wszelkich starań aby paleta owocowych, kwiatowych i cytrusowych aromatów była dobrze zbalansowana przez cierpkość i goryczkę."
We hope you are going to enjoy this contest. We have an idea of a theme that can be described like this: the design should be similar to a certain type of collage made of illustrations and photos (vintage but not necessarily). They can be mixed with your own illustrations, shapes etc. Best examples are: CD sleeves 'Dig out your soul' by Oasis, 'Different gear, still speeding' by Beady Eye or hilarious cartoons in the Monty Python's Flying circus episodes. It is important that there will not be any problems with ownership of the pictures/illustrations so public domain is good. Arrangement should be such that the brewery name, beer name and type are clearly visible. The collage perhaps in the middle area. The description of the beer and the info should be in separate areas to the left and to the right of the main image, but we leave some freedom for the artist to make his/her magic. We attached some examples that have something that we liked. We do not want to copy them but upload them to give you a general feeling that we would like to create: cool, quirky, surprising combination of images, unconventional and yet fairly classy. One of the attached pictures is a rather clumsy beer label that I made for inspiration (FAS2.png). In general, we where thinking about black & white to be the main colors, but it does not have to be this way. We think it would be good if the label was contrasting with the color of the brown bottle and so that the beer is easy to spot/stands out on the store shelf. Enclosed is also the logo of our company that should be clearly visible on the label. THE WINNING DESIGNER WILL VERY LIKELY HAVE A CHANCE TO WORK ON THE NEXT LABELS! ### UPDATE ### It would be good if there was some (at least loose) connection between your design and the name of the beer OR the short beer description given in the brief. BTW. Please see Oasis 'All around the world video' to get some of the feeling of bizarreness I am looking for. Also, please look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-75sde6YYg (one of many Monty Python's cartoons). You do not need to copy ideas from these videos - just treat them as another hint to your designs. Both videos are packed with illustrations but the label is not a video so there needs to be some balance between the collage and the brevity of your design. I am sure you know this, since you are designers :) ### UPDATE 2 ### Link to the bottle type 'Amber' http://sklep.promet.org.pl/butelka-0-5l-na-piwo-paleta.html Total height 240mm, max height of the label area 110 mm, max width possible 220 mm (i.e. girth). I think it is safer to stick to the original sizes given in the description - if anyone would like to go beyond them please let us know and we will let you know whether this is possible. ### UPDATE 3 ### Some updates to the general description and the notes were made. ### UPDATE 4 ### Here is a some inspiration for the 'hoppy hour' if you are missing one. You can use this idea or provide your own if you have a better one. I made the picture myself from some old school pre-photoshop era photo of a man holding his head. (hophead.png) Good luck, Fabryka Piwa
