Dan Ford got their new product packaging by running a design contest:
The Lid Popper (jar and bottle opener) needs packaging
Check out Dan Ford's Product packaging contest…
The Lid Popper is a jar and bottle opener that is manufactured using only two very common parts, a nail and a nut and it works as well as any other openers on the market. I created and registered The Lid Popper design and I will manufacture and sell them. The Lid Popper is made from quality stainless steel and is made to high workmanship standards such that the product is capable of lasting indefinitely.
What's your vision?
1. Packaging and artwork for The Lid Popper to be put into or to be held by. 2. A display box to hold all the individual packaged Lid Poppers in so that they can be displayed on the shelf for retail sale. The Lid Poppers will be supplied to the shops in this box which then converts to a display box. The shop might put the display box on the shelf in the store or at front of shop near the register. You are free to design what you want. My thoughts are that the display box will have a perforated edge on the top (lid) that peals back to uncover the Lid Poppers inside. The lid will then be the backboard to the display box and will have illustrations on it. The display box should have the Lid Poppers packed in single file and fitting in approximately 10 Lid Poppers. 3. If you can please also think of an ingenious/cost effective way of attaching a customer’s name/business name to The Lid Popper? This is optional and if you can think of a way then it will increase your chances of winning however it will definitely not rule you out of winning if you only complete 1 and 2 above.
Requirements – front of packaging: The Lid Popper™ Jar and Bottle Opener 100% Australian Owned and Designed 100% High Grade Stainless Steal Order online at www.thelidpopper.com.au The Lid Popper™ is a multipurpose tool used for opening bottles and for loosening jar lids that are difficult to open. I think customers need to see at first glance what the Popper does. I think the Popper itself needs to be seen on the packaging in action. A sketch/illustration of a bottle or a jar could be placed on the front of packaging in position with The Lid Popper so that it looks like The Lid Popper is actually opening it. I think it would attract peoples attention more this way. Please include an illustration of The Lid Popper in action opening a bottle and loosening the lid of a jar. I think it is important that they are on the front of package so that potential purchasers can see at a glance what the product does. Requirements – back of packaging; This innovative and creative opener was originally made in the farm shed where nuts and nails are commonly available. It is a superior designed, versatile and high quality opening tool. You can put it in the kitchen draw, in the door of your car or in the work shed. This opener is the great Australian Lid Popper™. Jar Opening; Position The Lid Popper™ on jar lid and gently lever around the lid at different points until pressure is released. Do this until you are able to twist lid off normally. Bottle Opening; Position The Lid Popper™ on lid and leaver open. The Lid Popper™ and associated pictures are a registered trademark of DAN M FORD Pty Ltd. The Lid Popper™ is a registered Design No. 318276. The Lid Popper ABN 98604474 PO Box 647, Tenterfield, NSW, 2373 Other Information for designers; I don't want a plastic covering over The Lid Popper because I think potential purchasers need to be able to see and touch The Lid Popper to be able to appreciate the quality stainless steal and workmanship. The Lid Popper can be clipped in with plastic just don't have the product totally covered by it. The Lid Popper could be clipped in or tied in or any other method you might think of. If you use something like plastic clips or ties then show me where and how it is tied off on the back of packet. Remember that whatever method used the opener needs to be secure so that people cannot easily take them from the packet. Make sure the packaging will be weighted evenly. So that if it is on put on a hang sell it will not sway one way too much. The target market will be those wanting to buy the opener and put their names on it for marketing reasons. Also the opener will be sold in pubs, bottle shops, corner stores, kitchenware places for everyday use. Please try and include a standout logo so that I can begin to build my brand recognition, from the moment The Lid Popper lands on the shelves. I want the packaging to be appealing and eye catching. I want my product to stand out. The packaging can be as basic or sophisticated as you like but remember this is a quality product so the packaging should reflect this. The dimensions of the packaging and style of packaging are entirely up to you. There needs to be an area for a hang sell at the top. The dimensions of The Lid Popper are; The handle (nail) 98mm in length and 5mm in diameter and 10mm diameter on the flat nail end. The head (nut) is a 5/8th hexagonal nut. The total length of The Lid Popper is 120mm I hope the information I have provided is clear. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or you would like further clarification.
