Doc-Martin got their new product packaging by running a design contest:
Make Bacon look good!

Food & Drink
We are producers of high quality bacon, traditionally dry cured with a twist – the addition of amazing flavour. By hand rubbing our special cure mixtures into the pork and giving plenty of time for it to work its magic, allows the infusion of flavours such as chilli, garlic and herbs. The bacon is then hickory smoked and air dried ensuring that it will not shrink in the pan, cooking to crispy perfection. Our current range is: - Garlic Bacon - Chilli Bacon - Herby Bacon - Cinnamon Bacon - Bourbon and Demerara Bacon - and just plain old damn good Bacon!
What's your vision?
Packaging for the retail packs of bacon. The product needs to be vacuum sealed in some manner (bag, tray, etc.) and compliant with food standards. Each pack will contain approximately 6 rashers of bacon, and the product size should be approximately 15 x 30 cm. I am looking for an innovative way of presenting the bacon along with enough space for us to describe the product in more detail and to cover off the legal requirements for food packaging in the UK. Raw bacon is not particularly pretty product so I am open to packaging which covers the whole thing and we can use photos, etc. to describe the contents. Or I will be just as interested to see packaging which shows the bacon... It is over to you guys! As this is an artisan product I do not want a corporate look to it, rather a hand made feel.. But done in a way that is quick to do when we are packaging - i.e. no string or bows, etc.!
I quite like the idea of an old fashioned design, the sort of way people used to get meat wrapped in butchers - brown, wax paper? Just a thought!
