An animal character was sought as the icon and ultimately, an elephant was chosen - chosen for its imposing presence and its famed strength. It was illustrated such that a key can be seen in the negative space underneath it - hinting at they key's protection and safety (emphasised by the elephant's curling trunk around it). Moreover, the key being in negative portrays the temporary keys - being there without being there, hidden yet in front of everyone (as it is the nature of the virtual vault).
