Apprana Needs a New Business Card!
Check out Vivek M. Chawla's Stationery contest…
We have a site, but it is being changed. Please DO NOT take ANY design cues from our web site.
For this card, I want a horizontally-oriented (landscape) card. I like cards that have rounded corners, so this is a direction I'd like to see. I want to stick with colors that are either part of my logo's palette, OR are very complimentary to it. This means that designers should stick with very earthy, "living" colors (greens / yellows / browns) I want the back side of the card to be a full-color bleed of either one of the darker colors in the logo's palette. I like the use of tiny icons for things like "Phone", "Mobile", "Facebook", "Twitter", etc. The back side of the card should also have a QR code. Feel free to experiment with QR code colors and background colors other than the black / gray that my artwork has. I like cards that have a "weighted" element on the front side of the card. For example, I like cards that have full-color bleeds on some defined area of the card's front side, eg. reverse text or logo on 1/3 horizontally of the card-face, or maybe the bottom 1/4 of the card. It's almost like that area forms a "handle" for the card...something that "frames" the information which is given on the non-colored part. The dimensions of the card should be the standard business-card size of 3.5" x 2.0". I may share pictures of cards that have non-standard dimensions, but that's only because there is something I like about the visual style of those cards, not because I want to copy the size of those cards. To help designers better undertand what I'm looking for, I will take some photographs of business cards that I like. I'm not looking for exact copies of someone else's card, but I want my tastes understood.
Brand name to include on the stationery item(s)
What to avoid
I do NOT want a vertically-oriented (portrait) card. Please stick with horizontal (landscape) designs. The only exceptions would be if you're sure that your vertical design will knock my socks off. ;-) I do NOT like cards that feel too "empty". I want there to be some "visual weight' to the card. The only exception to this is a card like "ANDY LAATS" in my sample set. That card is just really elegant. I do NOT like cards where the text is hard to read because of poor contrast between letters and background colors. I do NOT want the QR code on the front of the card. I do NOT like non-standard card sizes. Please keep all designs to the standard 3.5" x 2.0" size. I do NOT like single-sided cards. Please be sure to read my notes about what I'm looking for on the back-side of the card.
