My name is Mac Bartine, and my wife April passed away 3 weeks ago from a rare and very aggressive form of breast cancer. She was 35.
The blog I wrote about her fight is at http://www.bartine.com. Before you join this contest, please take a look at the blog briefly - just to get a feeling for who she was. I hope that this will help to inspire your design submission, and that you'll enjoy getting to know her just a little bit.
I was - so she told me - a good husband before April was diagnosed, and I totally dedicated myself to giving her the best possible life and love I could give her after her diagnosis.
I plan to continue focusing my passion for April by raising money for cancer-focused and other charities, and for individuals who need money to get through their own struggles with cancer. Toward that end, I'm holding this contest for creating a great design that I can use for t-shirts that people will love for its design, and be proud to wear in her memory to fund raisers such as the Susan B Komen Race for the Cure.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
People who knew April, but also everyone who would like to help others, and especially those who love nature. April was a very giving, loving and funny girl, and self-proclaimed natural science geek extraordinaire.
There are many people who are nature lovers, many who have been touched personally by someone else's (or their own) battle with cancer, and many friends and family of April. These will be the target audiences of this design.
* The design must incorporate "4April" (without the quotes) - preferably worked into the design instead of just block lettered in a common font
* The design must be nature-oriented (aquatic life was a favorite of April's. She LOVED jellyfish, squid, octopi and the cuttlefish. Somehow incorporating these into the design would be awesome. She also loved forests, fungi, birds...any of these would also be good subjects.)
* incorporate the pink breast cancer ribbon
A design that I keep on picturing is an underwater ocean scene with a jellyfish that has dangling tentacles spelling out "4April", and the pink breast cancer ribbon is repeated throughout the design as a school of little fish in the shape of the ribbon. This is just an idea - not a "must do". I offer it as a generic example of creatively incorporating everything into your design, or as an actual design option - as you choose.
