Playfarer
My name is Sean Goldfaden, I'm a 23 year-old Senior at the University of Miami, but I've lived most of my life in Southern California.
I started Playfarer.com with the vision of allowing customers to CREATE THEIR OWN sunglasses, rather than CHOOSE from an existing product line.
Playfarers are BRIGHT. They are FUN. And they are 100% YOU!
Whether you choose your shades to reflect your personality, your favorite sports team, or to support one of our many philanthropic efforts, Playfarer.com is here to help.
Playfarer.com distributes products to 2 main market segments (both in the 18-24 demographic):
'Hipsters'- By definition, a 'Hipster' is someone who seeks out being
hip, cool, or a trendsetter. They pride themselves in self-expression, and enjoy things like Music, Art, Fashion, Festivals, and more. They are interested in expressing their individuality and like matching their Playfarers to the rest of their outfit (sort of like how hats and shoes have been used in the past) They are much more interested in the colors and patterns we offer, rather than the brand name on the side.
These Hipsters are looking for a COOL WEBSITE to match Their COOL Identities. The first thing that should come out of their mouths when they see the new website is, "woah, this is cool, colorful, and easy to use website!"
Gameday Gluttons- These are currently enrolled students who "Bleed
Their School Colors" They go to athletic games dressed in their favorite players gear. They match their outfit from head to toe as a means of telling EVERYONE that THEY HAVE SCHOOL SPIRIT! They use their parents (or their own) disposable income to buy cheap accessories like Jerseys, Beads, Face Paint, Fanny Packs, Wigs, License Plates and yes, Sunglasses to better enhance their Gameday attire.
I DO NOT WANT: you to focus on College Football, or College Sports for that matter. Focus on the Make-Your-Own Nature.
I Want 3 Things to Resonate in Your Head

THINK BRIGHT!
*NOTE: In the "Attach File" section below, I sent my brand guide, and our logo. As you will see, the logo is a "P" inside of a circle. I think maybe you could do something cool w/ that in the background of the site, but use your judgement on that.

The Home Page should have a very simple, yet COOL, Look and Feel.
(I like how this website does it - http://custom.case-mate.com/imakemycase/)
The basic idea of the site is for consumers to arrive at Playfarer.com, they will see a pair of White Playfarers with a color wheel/box above the pair.
The consumer will chose their frame color first, and then the left ear, and then the right ear.
I don't foresee a lot of content needed on the site, the idea is for them to arrive there and think, "wow, this is really cool, but it also seems very simple."
I am using a 3rd party e-commerce site (Big Cartel) to sell my product.
It does not allow for people to make-their-own glasses, and provides very little design customization.
I dont think it looks COOL, and it is not consistent with what our company actually does.
http://custom.case-mate.com/imakemycase/ - I think this is a REALLY COOL website. It's very simple, the product is BIG and right there in your face. They've made it really artsy by adding those elements that pop up as you move your cursor, and I think it reflects the customization that the business offers.
http://www.hoodieremix.com/ - this is another REALLY COOL, REALLY SIMPLE website.
