Who we are - The Observatory Dental Practice is a new Dental Practice based in Falmouth, Cornwall, in the south west of England. We were inspired to start our own practice to improve the standard of Dental Care provided in the area. Our USP - The unique selling proposition is that we will be making the best possible dental treatment available to everyone. Alongside employing only the most highly skilled and qualified dentists in the region, we will be doing this by encouraging patients to join premium monthly payment plans. This will allow patients to pay for the best possible treatment, but allow them to spread the cost of these treatments over time to avoid large unexpected bills. This is an unusual approach in the UK. Alongside preventative general family dentistry, a full range of advanced dental treatments to improve people’s smiles will be provided. Our target audience - The population in Falmouth and Cornwall has two main groups. The first is reasonably wealthy families moving to the region to retire (Cornwall is a well-known tourist and retirement location in England). The second is young families that are well educated and from a wealthy background but have relocated to the region because of the well-known arts and creative University located in the town (the University of Falmouth). There has also been migration to the area from large cities due to Covid 19. Our target audience is therefore wealthy retirees and well-educated families who want the best possible dental care at an affordable price. We want people to choose us because they know they will be properly looked after. They will receive the best possible care at a reasonable price. We want our brand to make them feel safe, comfortable, and cared for. If our brand was a person they would be kind, caring, trustworthy, and professional. Customer Purchasing Criteria – Our most important customer purchasing criteria are: - The dentist is not rushed and takes his time with me. - The dentist’s qualifications and skill. - I value the dentist spotting and preventing problems in advance. Our secondary customer purchasing criteria are: - How easy it is to book an appointment. - How easily I can contact the practice by phone, text, or email. - The dentist’s communication skills. - Practice location. - How quickly I can get an appointment. - I am informed and understand what the dentist is doing at all times. - Rapport with the dentist. - Staff friendliness. - The practice uses the gold standard dental technology, equipment, and techniques. Our Competition - Our competition is from NHS dental practices, which provide a low cost and low quality service, and other private practices that are expensive and of variable quality. The challenge our brand aims to solve is making optimal quality care affordable.
We want to try and strike the balance of not appearing as a budget option, but also not appearing as an overpriced luxury. We aim for honest affordable quality alongside professionalism. In the UK, most dental practice web sites are made by a few marketing agencies and in my opinion all look very similar, appear too busy, and use stock images of people smiling that people do not relate to. Two of these agencies are Dental Focus and Digimax Dental. They both have a page which shows many of the websites they have designed (https://www.dentalfocus.com/websites.html) (https://digimax.dental/dental-marketing-portfolio/). I would like to look a little different to the majority of these if possible. I would like the pages to be: 1. comparatively minimalist 2. NOT to have a stock image(s) of someone smiling 3. Not show a dental surgery or dental instruments that may scare some patients. I have uploaded our logo, the colours used in our logo, the font used in our logo, and a business card design showing an interesting pattern that could be used. However feel free to branch away from this should you wish.
Initially we are just looking for a concept for the design of the web site, which we would like you to expand upon once we have the initial concept finalised. Please provide a design for the 'homepage', with a 'what makes us different' section, and a 'meet the team' section. Homepage: Design- I believe the design of the homepage has to have two main components: (1) The main picture, and (2) The style of the page. (1) The main picture. We do NOT want this to be a stock image of someone smiling. We would consider other stock images and could have professional photographs taken for the final design. Please feel free to suggest other images but here are some suggestions: a) Falmouth - our town is beautiful. A google search of 'falmouth cornwall' will provide plenty of inspiration and we would consider stock images of the town of surrounding countryside or beaches. In the future we may replace with a professionally taken photograph. b) Our premesis - a beautiful old weather observatory built in roughly 1884. I have uploaded some photos of it at present. Some from a distance, some close up. We have some building work to complete before we open so we will update the photos in the final design. c) Myself (the principal dentist) - I will have one of these professionally taken but I have uploaded some to work with. d) Oral Hygiene products such as electric toothbrush, teepee brushes, and dental floss in a sort of 'digital interpretation of physical products' style. I have uploaded an example of what I mean by this. e) Falmouth Working Boat - There is a traditional type of boat that is sailed in the waters around Falmouth called a 'falmouth working boat'. It was used to dredge for oysters from 1880 onwards and has a very distinct sail shape that is mostly white with a colourful top sail, which is very recognisable locally. We would consider a stock image of one or a few of these boats. A google search of 'falmouth working boat' will show some examples. f) Surfing - Cornwall if famous for its surfing in the UK. A tasteful stock photo of cornish surf may work. We have uploaded an example. g) Palm Trees - The area around the practice is well known for having a particular type of palm tree. I have uploaded some examples. (2) The style of the page. We are open to suggestions but we have uploaded some examples of styles we like Content - should have the following components: 1. Address - 27 Western Terrace, Falmouth, Cornwall, TR11 4QL 2. Phone number and e-mail address - 01326 761 555, email@example.com 3. Logo and practice name if appropriate 4. Links to our instagram, facebook, pinterest, tik tok, and whatsapp (all @observatorydental) 5. Tagline - 'treating you how we would like to be treated'. 6. Four buttons that link to four other pages at the bottom. Each will have a logo, the first bit of text in larger writing, then the second bit of text (written here in brackets) in smaller text underneath: (1) I would like to improve the appearance of my teeth (tooth whitening, orthodontics, invisalign, white fillings, or veneers). (2) I would like to improve my ability to eat or speak (implants, dentures, bridges, toothwear). (3) I would like my oral health assessed and maintained (oral health consultation). (4) I am in pain (emergency appointment). 7. A 'make an appointment now' button. 8. Navigation links to other pages (possibly from a menu button): (1) Home, (2) What Makes Us Different (3) Meet the team, (4) Treatments, (5) Success Stories, (6) About Us, (7) Fees, (8) Contact us, (9) Blog, (10) Environmental Commitment, (11) Commitment to Local Community, (12) Dentist referrals. 9. A 'leave a review' button 10. A 'send us a message' button As the screen scrolls down the next section is 'What Makes Us Different'. Here we would like four points to be made: - Proactive prevention to save you money by avoiding problems. - Monthly payment plans to help you budget for your care by avoiding unexpected bills. - We are accessible and welcoming new patients today. - All our dentists hold extensive postgraduate qualifications in their areas of expertise. - We use gold standard technology, equipment, and techniques. The next section is 'Meet The Team'. Here we would like my picture (I have uploaded a couple to choose from but for the final site I will have a photo professionally taken). He now teaches postgraduate dentistry both at Kings College London and the University of Plymouth. He is also involved in dental research for which he has been published internationally".
