I'm about to finish up university and want to launch my first business. I love learning languages [I speak 3 now, but want to learn more] and figured out a business to start around it.
There's a huge need in the foreign language learning community. Langauge media, like the Rosetta Stone, will teach people the proper way to speak a language, but this teaches you the language, but not how to 'speak' it. Consequently, users of current language learning media learn the very pro-p-er way of sp-eak-ing a language and lack the skills necessary to really communicate with natives and fluent speakers of the language they're learning.
HearNatives exists for this purpose exactly. We sell products for people who want to learn to really *speak* a language and want to fit in with the natives.
Our business model is pretty simple. We create audio files of people having good conversation in foreign languages, and sell these files online. These can go with you wherever you go; to the gym, in the car, or wherever you are and want to learn a foreign language.
Right now, I think our market consists of two types:
- Young people (students / professionals / travelers) learning a foreign language.
- To-be diplomats and expatriates.
We want our site to be convincing but at the same time fun. Aside from that, it's all really up to you.
Our site is a store that sells audio products. A store where we will be selling our audio files. The site should look professional enough so that people trust us with their credit card details and whatnot, but otherwise the site should be simple enough for a new user to navigate and choose to make a sale within a few minutes.
My ideal site has the following "sections"
On each product page, we can have a sample where people can download a free sample of each language. There'll also be a link to add each product to your cart. Also, it would be nice if there were spaces where we could put stuff on special so that it gains attention.
Otherwise, I'm open to your creativity. Presentation, style, aesthetics, all your call.
ALSO: here's a sample site. it's really plain.
