Anders Steinlein got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Leading wine critic in Norway needs new, modern web design

Food & Drink
Svein Lindin which runs In Vino Veritas is one of Norway's leading wine critics. In addition to writing wine reviews for one of Norway's most popular newspapers, he holds wine & food courses – privately and at scheduled events. The website is mainly about his wine & food courses business.
We'd like a modern and clean design. Emphasis on large photography illustrations (we have a large collection of high-resolution relevant wine and food photos), light and relatively "spacious" design. Larger rather than smaller fonts. The red color from the logo should probably be used in the design somehow, but how, and what other colors are used, is up to you.
HOME PAGE: Personal, with focus on Svein (the business owner). You can find two photos of him that might fit on the home page attached (we have higher resolution versions for the final design). The home page should have the menu visible, but the content should somehow guide the visitor into either "Vinkurs" (wine courses) or "Påmeldingskurs" (wine course events). WINE COURSES ("Vinkurs" in main menu): The current page (use Google translate from Norwegian to read the content) is http://vinforedrag.no/vinkurs/temaer, http://vinforedrag.no/vinkurs/mat_og_vin/ and http://vinforedrag.no/vinkurs/riedelkurs (for wine course, food and wine courses, and Riedel wine glass courses, respectively) which will be consolidated to one main "Wine courses" page with filtering and/or subpages for the different course types. We need the design to list X number of courses with basic info and call-to-action to a "product page" about that specific wine course. Filtering and/or submenu navigation as mentioned above to see specific course types. The content in the right column as seen on http://vinforedrag.no/vinkurs/temaer needs to be kept in some fashion -- some basic info about all courses, contact info, contact form and a general order form. PRODUCT PAGE / SPECIFIC WINE COURSE PAGE: Following a link/call-to-action on the wine courses page should lead to a page describing that specific wine course. One or mote photos are important here, fairly brief basic text information and some metadata (price, optional date/time for wine course events, number of spots, etc). See the existing courses for example info. There are two important call to actions here -- order the course directly, or "please contact me" (to have Svein contact the potential client). Think of this page to be potential landing pages of marketing campaigns for a course (although the menu navigation should still be present). INFORMATION PAGE: This is the "catch-all" plain information page, such as "about us". http://vinforedrag.no/vinkurs/informasjon is one such current page. It should have main content, as well as aside content such as "contact us".
What to avoid
Not too "boxed in" -- that is one of the dislikes of the current design. Even though it should be modern, we do NOT want "scroll to go between pages"-style that is pretty popular currently.
The header/main menu should consist of: "Vinkurs" (wine courses), "Påmeldingskurs" (wine course events), "Gavekort" (vouchers), "Produkter" (products), "Information". It should also have a separate, distinct "menu item" called "Magasinet Vinofil" (which will be a link to a distinct website http://vinofil.no/). Inspiration for that last distinct item could be log in links, or other similar "important, but not normal menu items" many sites may have. See the messages on the contest for information about the footer section.

Mike is a top notch designer with an excellent aesthetic. He's prompt, patient, and a fantastic collaborator. He can execute your well-thought out ideas, or help you figure out what you're trying to achieve, both of which he did for us in our project. Would hire him again in an instant without hesitation.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
