rnawracaj got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Redesign the corporate website for our materials science company!
Check out rnawracaj's Web page design contest…
We are a materials science company that develops coatings that are used in the building construction and infrastructure repair sectors. Our coatings are used in manufacturing facilities to protect surfaces such as floors, walls and machinery. The industries that we service are concrete installation, pharmaceutical, medical, food and beverage processing, and underground pipe repair. Our target customers are large building contractors, building owners and architects and municipal officials. They are typically engineering oriented. We need to appear, clean, scientific, upscale, and corporate.
Lots of white space. Colors that our in our logo. Navy blue, gray, white and shades of each. Colors should indicate a very professional, upscale, scientific, corporate company.
Home page (level 1): White space, clean, scientific images combined with our two main sectors; floor coatings in a manufacturing plant and underground pipe repair. It should provide the basic navigation and enable visitors to quickly move to either of our two businesses; construction coatings or CIPP (pipe) repair coatings. These are the two markets we serve. We want visitors to be in the respective section of the site within 1 click. This landing page needs to really set the tone of our company and communicate within 3 seconds, that we are scientific, upscale, premium, experienced, corporate and are to be regarded as serious players in the two markets mentioned above. We also need to communicate quickly that we are a major player in the entire Americas region, both North and South America. The next level page would be the sector page which would basically be the landing page for whichever of our two businesses the user wants to learn more about (these are two entirely different customer groups). This would have images of floors in large manufacturing environments coated with our products. It would provide information on the higher level product categories we offer in this area. It would establish credibility of some of the clients we have; large automotive facilities, pharma, food processing, beverage processing, etc. For our other business of CIPP (pipe) coatings, we would show images of pipelines being repaired in large urban settings to communicate we are involved in major municipal, infrastructure repair projects. This section would also show the high level look at the product line and its categories that are involved in servicing this sector. The third level page design would be an individual product page. It would have a lifestyle/action image, a product package image, some text, some data/chart as well as a pdf of the product's technical data sheet, material safety data sheet and perhaps a few other useful pdf docs that are typically required to aid in the product selection process. Video would typically be embedded here too. The fourth level page would be some type request more information page. The fifth level page I am not sure of at the moment.
What to avoid
Stay away from red, pink, yellow, orange, purple. We want simple, clean navigation that is very intuitive. We want the site to be extremely simple to navigate. Our customer base in not very internet sophisticated and does not want to spend a great deal of time searching. They are NOT impressed with bells and whistles, but rather simplicity, fast, intuitive access to the precise info they need. Simple, clean and upscale will impress them.
Our goal is to have this new site replace our existing site. We know our current site makes us appear very small. We have a new logo now, thanks to 99 designs, powerpoint, stationary pack, advertisement etc. We are just launching our new look now and at an upcoming tradeshow in March. We want this site live by end of Feb at the latest. We need all the existing content repopulated on it for now. We want to be able to go in and edit it, add to it, upload photos and videos. In 1 year, we would like to redo the site entirely, building it from the ground up with an SEO backed methodology and strategy. But we need this up asap. We will upload more photos this week that we have. Stay tuned.
