Medical & Pharmaceutical
HeartValveSurgery.com (HVS) is the largest educational resource and online community of patients needing heart valve surgery. Our mission is to educate and empower patients from diagnosis through recovery. Our website includes a social network, a surgeon finder, a valve clinic directory, a microsite application, an educational video library, a learning center, a book and a blog. We have partnered with leading cardiac centers including the Cleveland Clinic, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Brigham & Women’s Hospital and UCLA. Our target audience are patients with heart valve disease that are typically aged between 45 and 75 years of age.
To help you understand what we want in a new design, it might help you to understand what we do not like about our current home page. The issues with our current home page are: 1. The homepage fails to convey the key message that our website is about community and education. As you will see, our current page is not emotional -- it is mechanical with small pictures that are not emotional. 2. The homepage does not convey all that HeartValveSurgery.com has to offer. Over the years, we have created several new services. Today, our services include a social network, a surgeon finder, a valve clinic directory, a microsite application, an educational video library, a learning center, a book and a blog. These services need to be reflected on the home page, with appropriate call-to-actions so that the user can access them. 3. The homepage navigation text is difficult to read. Our demographic is typically older, aged 45-85 years old. We need the navigation to be easier to read. 4. The homepage has too much text. We would like less text, more emotional pictures and attractive call-to-actions that are "Above the fold" of the page. 5. We are now working with several great cardiac centers -- Cleveland Clinic, UCLA, Mount Sinai -- and we have been featured in the press. But, you can barely see the icons of these organizations on our homepage. To enhance trust and credibility of the website. Those icons should be more visible. 6. The homepage fails to show that we have "Over 1 Million" visitors each year. That should be indicated to enhance the trust and credibility of the website. 7. The homepage does not capitalize on the personal brand of Adam Pick, website founder and former patient. Over the years, Adam has become a trusted patient advocate. As this is a personal experience, we believe that Adam should be featured not as a book salesman (see current home page design) but as a trusted advisor and friend. Adam had this surgery performed in 2005. You can learn about Adam at http://www.heart-valve-surgery.com/about-adam-pick-author-heart-valve.php.
We are asking your help to redesign our home page located HeartValveSurgery.com. The homepage should provide a warm and comforting display that helps patients, their families and friends understand that they are not alone -- during this very difficult experience. The homepage should also indicate that HeartValveSurgery.com has educational and community resources to guide them through the open heart surgery process, from diagnosis to surgery to recovery. From learning about valvular disease, to selecting the right medical providers, to meeting other people, HeartValveSurgery.com helps educate and empower patients.
1. As you review this brief and prepare your design, we may be doing some live A/B testing of a slightly different home page design. For that reason, I have attached a screenshot of (i) our current homepage and (ii) the redesign for your review. 2. As this is a medical website, the colors should be very soft blue and white based. Call to action buttons should be offset to motivate user click-ability. 3. We believe the key to a great home page design will be: * Simplicity * Less text * Emotional picture(s) * Excellent call to actions for the key features of the website: - Meet our community - Learn about valve surgery - Find surgeons and hospitals * Trust and credibility signals using icons * Data about site traffic (Over 3 million patient visits) * Testimonials about the benefits of this website 4. As this website is about real people, we prefer not to use stock photography. If you would like to use actual pictures of our community, you can visit these links: http://www.heart-valve-surgery.com/patient-success-stories.php http://www.heart-valve-surgery.com/journals/
