Animal & Pet
Healthy Breeds lets people shop for pet products based on the breed of their dog. This feature must be emphasized as it distinguishes the site from all other eCommerce sites for pets. Essentially a user comes to the site, selects a breed and is presented with a) information about the breed b) Products such as supplements, treats and toys. Target audience is pet owners - mostly dog owners.
Fresh, bright, modern and high-contrast look. There will also be a auxiliary site which hosts forums. http://forums.healthybreeds.com. Link to the forums at appropriate places. Can also embed latest posts from the forums somewhere on the pages if it makes sense.
1. Home screen: Header to include a search box, account menu and navigation menu. The idea of the site is that you are shopping for your specific breed of dog. So the landing page must encourage user to select a breed. Products can alternatively also be looked up by category such as Supplements, chews, toys, agility equipment, food, flea & tick, grooming etc. Landing page should show at least the top 20 breeds with pictures and the rest either as text links or on a separate page listing all 200+ breeds. Footer must have links about company, support, facebook, twitter etc. I like designed where content-edge ends and a different background begins. Makes the page pop out a little. However open to anything that looks slick. 2. List of Products Once breed is selected, there should be a location on the site to show currently selected breed along with option to change. The page should also display all products for the breed sectioned off by category. 3. Product Page This page displays a single product with potentially multiple sizes to choose from. Should show product photo, description, any options (size of product) and Add to Cart or Add to Wish List options. 4. Shopping Cart Shows items added to cart along with button to check out. 5. Breed Page - this page displays the characteristics of the breed along with a selection of recommended products. This is somewhat new concept; please let me know if you have ideas to make breed-specific navigation more sensible. Logo for Healthy Breeds is attached.
What to avoid
1. Content that starts too far down. Design assuming a 1024x768 screen size. 2. Non-web fonts
